Formerly Bi-Sexual Singer Stuns Audience With Alleged Anti-Gay Rant: ‘God Hates Fa***ts’

Singer-songwriter Michelle Shocked very literally shocked (pun intended) her audience on Sunday after she launched into what critics are calling an anti-gay tirade. The performer, a born-again Christian who was previously labeled bi-sexual, apparently made some intensely-contentious comments.

According to USA Today, she reportedly told the crowd at Yoshi’s SF, “You can go on Twitter and say, ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates [anti-gay slur].’” Another report in the San Francisco Chronicle claims she said, ”God hates fags and you can tweet that I said so.”

But Inquisitr claims Shocked might have gone much further.

“When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilisation, and Jesus will come back,” she allegedly said. “You are going to leave here and tell people, ‘Michelle Shocked said God hates fa**ots.’”

This account is somewhat different from the USA Today and San Francisco Chronicle renditions of her commentary.

If the latter transcription is accurate, she was predicting how people might react, rather than telling individuals to take to social media to let the world know how she feels about gays. Either way, her alleged words are certainly offensive to many, especially considering her use of a word that is generally considered off-limits.

Regardless of what was said, the crowd apparently reacted quickly, with some instantly walking out of the venue. The venue’s owner apparently tried to end the show as well, but Inquisitr claims that Shocked continued to perform. In the end, staff cut the lights and allegedly shut her down.

As a result of the incident, another venue that was planning to host the singer for a May 5 performance has cancelled her show. SPACE Club in Evanston, Ill., took to its Facebook page on Monday to make the following announcement:

Many of you have reached out already following an ugly rant given by Michelle Shocked at her show in San Francisco last night. After speaking with the promoter of that show about the nature of the remarks, it’s clear that this is no longer a show we’re willing to put our name on. The May 5th performance at SPACE has been cancelled and refunds will be issued at point of purchase.

And LBGTQ Nation claims that others have followed this lead, with nearly every other venue joining in on canceling the singer:

Update: As of Tuesday morning, nine of the 11 venues remaining on Shocked’s U.S. tour have cancelled her upcoming performances:

HopMonk’s Tavern in Novato, Calif., SPACE in Evanston, Ill., eTown in Boulder, Colo., the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland, Ore., Meander’s Kitchen in Seattle, Cozmic in Eugene, Ore., the Palms Playhouse in Winter, Calif., Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz, Calif., and McCabe’s in Santa Monica, Calif., have all announced or tweeted cancellations.

A Change.org petition is calling on the two remaining venues to follow suit.

So far, no video or audio has been released, so it’s difficult to discern what, exactly, was said. Regardless, Shocked’s alleged rant is making viral rounds.

The whole history of life hates Homosexuality. Otherwise they could reproduce. Love, marrage, all is designed to bring in a new generation. The only reason that any group should promote such a dead end conduct is another form of birth control. That’s the desired outcome. Just like abortion, Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me understand this debacle. Portman’s son is getting married to his boyfriend, so grandpa will never have a grandson to bounce on his knee. In effect, he ends up with a son and a “son” in law. I’ve learned to follow the sage advice of my own grandfather. One day he was bouncing me on his knee and then he suddenly let me drop to the floor. As I began to cry he said, “Never trust anyone and let that sink in”. Now I know what he meant!

I pray to Jesus for Him to continue to keep His protective, and healing, Hand over her. Sounds like she has made her choice and is struggling to adjust to it. Regardless, we shouldn’t bash someone for standing up for God – because society (aka the “world”) is going to turn on us all if we don’t conform to “their” (aka “one world idea) beliefs and sins – and it appears they are doing just that with Ms. Shocked.
San Francisco is Sodom and Gomorrah all over again anyhow – I would not want to live in that city when Jesus returns.

God does NOT hate homosexuals. If the Bible stopped at the end of the Old Testament, then the conclusion that God hates homosexuals could be argued. God proved that He loved the whole world by sending His only Son to the cross to die for them. God DOES hate the sin of homosexuality, and He clearly states it at numerous times in scripture. Until Christ comes back, homosexuals will still have the opportunity to accept Christ’s death on the cross as payment for their sins, and will still have the chance to turn away from their sin. However, after Christ returns (and that could be tonight, tomorrow, next week, years from now, etc), it will be too late to repent.

Deut. 16:22 – God hates idols
Ps. 5:5 – God hates workers of iniquity
Ps. 45:7 – God hates widkedness
Amos 5:20-22 – God says He hates their feast days because they followed false gods
Amos 6:8 – The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
Zech 8:17 – God hates false oaths and imagining evil against your neighbor
Malachi 1:2-4 – God hated Esau (this is the one where He says he hated a person rather than a thing)
Rev. 2:6 – God hates the deeds and doctrines of the Nicolaitanes

And then there are scriptures telling us what to hate, like Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

But we are usually entreated to not hate people.

How is this anti-gay? It’s pro-freedom. When a civilization forces members of a religion to violate their faith under the threat of violence it really is the end of civilization. Any civilization where the people isn’t one that has much time left.

I am confused here. I heard about Shocked`s conversion to Christianity, but she was still retaining her progressive Jim Wallis views. She was one of the featured musicians at a “progressive Christian” national gathering.

I have no idea who this gal is…what is one of her songs? I do not like the words she used but she is entitled to her opinion and must also be ready to accept the consequences that many of her fans may disagree.

Being a homosexual, lesbian or hybrid (both a catcher and pitcher) is a life style choice and its wrong in the eyes of God whether your God is Jesus Christ or Ala (difference is Islam will kill you for being homosexual, lesbian or a hybrid), period.

No one understands why God sent his son to die? No one ever will, its beyond human comprehension, its a supernatural truth that only God reveals to people himself as he chooses? Does that mean God hates the harm that people cause each other by living the gay life style, or the fact that God had to kill his son to prove he loves people?

It does not fit the media template, to “re-tweet” oh God, I am so glad I am not gay anymore, we fought like cats and dogs? I am so glad I am not gay anymore, I can be a parent? Had she just said she was pro-bestiality, pro-sodomy, a pro-sadist this wouldn’t have been a issue, and the liberal media would be shoving her music down the throats of our children.
