Fox News Reporter Is Able to Get a Reluctant Jay Carney to Give George W. Bush Credit for Something

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 11: White House Press Secretary Jay Carney speaks during the daily press briefing at the James Brady Press Briefing Room March 11, 2013 at the White House in Washington, DC. Carney answered questions from members of the media during the briefing. Credit: Getty Images

During a daily press briefing on Tuesday, Fox News’ James Rosen clashed with White House Press Secretary Jay Carney over the value of the Iraq war and whether former President George W. Bush deserved any credit for progress made in the country.

After first dancing around the question, Carney eventually admitted that “credit is due” to Bush for sending troops into Iraq as it led to the ouster of Saddam Hussein.

“When you stand here and tell us that Iraq, today, now has the option for a chance for a much better future than her past, that is, as a matter of factual history, only possible because President Bush decided to launch this war,” Rosen said. “It seems to me, a matter of logic, that some credit would be due to President Bush and his advisors on this occasion. Do you not see it that way?”

Carney agreed that the people of Iraq have “the potential for a better future” because of the civilian and military service members who served in Iraq. “Historians will make the assessments about the policy judgments made by the administration that was in power at the time,” he added.

“It sounds to me, listening to you, what you call the quote-unquote ‘welcome development of Saddam Hussein being gone,’ you are unwilling to accord President George W. Bush even a single iota of credit for that development,” Rosen pried.

“I’m happy to do that, James,” Carney shot back. “But, I — there is no question that Saddam Hussein was removed from power thanks to the military efforts of U.S. armed forces and they were sent to Iraq by President Bush. So obviously there is a causal relationship and to the extent that credit is due, credit is due to him for that.

Carney went on to say that “historians” will debate the implications of the Iraq war for a long time.

I wonder if Carney would ever say the following….
” there is no question that Usama Bin Laden was removed from taliban rule thanks to the military efforts of U.S. armed forces and they were sent to Pakistan by President Obama. So obviously there is a causal relationship and to the extent that credit is due, credit is due to him for that.”

Oh yeah. But the Seals and Special Forces around the world deserve all the credit. Someone else makes the phone or phone calls, wakes King Barry from his BBQ slumber and then the real men go to work for US. The one who deserve ZERO credit is Barry Soetoro, but he sure likes to TAKE it doesn’t he. At every given opportunity.
      Remember:
      “When Obama called the Seals,
      and THEY got Bin Laden.

Didn’t send enough troops initially into Iraq – prolonged bloody war
    The Real ID Act
    $5 Trillion in debt
    The market crash
$700 Billion Bank bailout – slush fund – going away present to 0
$592 Million Embassy in Iraq, w/1000 staff, operating cost 1.2 billion/year on 104 acres
Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid and a Totally run Democratic federal government long enough to shove 0bamacare down out throats

Obama owes his presidency in large part to the Iraq War making people fatigued and apathetic. To parrot the Left and tag on to your very valid points, the current administration is partly”Bush’s Fault”

We can also thank him now for the power vacuum that has emboldened and strengthened Iran. Only time will tell how that will work out but I don’t see the Iraqis being much of a check to their demented aspirations

Do you have children? They will have a worse life than you stupid, due to obama, pelosi, reid, frank, dodd, etc. You obama voters will be seen in history as the people who brought the once great country of America down. No one is questioning Bush’s love for America. Even Secular Progressives believe they “love”America more than you or I ever could. But the TRUTH is he’s a flawed well-meaning (neocon) human being who made many STUPID mistakes only obvious in retrospect. Obama is much much worse but after two combat tours in Iraq, I don’t believe he would be president if we hadn’t started that war and instead just tried to get Afghanistan right (which is also now totally screwed up due to protraction and having Obama, Clinton and Panetta in charge).

How exactly did Bush crash the market?

Was Wall St. a casino? Yes. Built in the 90′s by Democrats who thought every person should have a house whether or not they could afford it. They forced banks to make loans the banks knew were highly unlikely or impossible to be paid back, so the banks attempted to make the best of a poor situation.

The banks sold those mortgages to Fanny & Freddy or, turned them into “mortgage backed securities” a practice that started long before the 1990′s, as a way to diversify risk. Then some clever chaps realized that the risk was still too concentrated, so they started cutting up the securities into “derivatives” to further diversify the risk. This was all a house of cards, waiting for a breeze. That breeze was the constriction of the credit markets. When credit froze and these things could no longer be bought and sold, they had to be unwound to figure out who actually owed whom what. That turned into a mess. There was simply too much gov’t mandated risk to be spread around reasonably, so everyone got hurt.

Still further, those people with legitimate businesses requiring a revolving line of credit got screwed when they couldn’t turn over their short term debt with that revolving line.

The Democrats started a nationwide game of “hot potato” with a frag grenade, then blamed everyone else when it blew up.

We didn’t go into Iraq in search of WMD. This is a lie that has been repeated so often that everyone seems to believe it now. WMD was only a small part of our reasons for removing Sadam. Read the Iraq Resolution that Congress passed which authorized the use of force. WMD was only one of many reasons. Everyone only seems to remember Powell’s speech to the UN where WMD’s were the main focus. Powell focused on WMD’s only to acheive UN approval. The remaining reasons were great enough that we did not even require UN approval.

What the paid progressive trolls that come to this site don’t realize is that most of us aren’t that fond of Bush either. Both saw a bigger and more controlling goverment as the solution to problems. They were both willing to sacrifice the principles of individual responsibility and self-determination for political purposes.

No, we are not Bush worshipers, but it’s clear that the trolls think we are. They hate Bush with an unreasoned passion, so they assume we love him the way they love Obama.

We don’t have to think about it very long at all, we realize that public money sent to Islamic countries supports the religion of Islam, and we should talk about it, we should tell repesentatives, we taught them how to fish, it’s time to come home, and stay there? We had politicians that acted in good faith, we gave them the benefit of the doubt, and we’ve changed our minds because we realize, FINALLY, that by doing so, we violate our own civil rights written to protect us from this very evil?

It’s time to tell people that want to immigrate to the United States or get visas and tie up the resources of our public government system, Americans don’t support the religion of Islam with public tax dollars, that’s your political problem, we will no longer make it ours?
