Harry Reid Actually Uses Explosion That Killed 7 Marines as Opportunity to…Complain About Sequestration

Seven U.S. Marines were killed in an explosion at a munitions depot in Hawthorne, Nev., late Monday night (read more here) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid decided that he would use the tragedy to complain about sequestration.

“I will do whatever I can going forward to support the United States military and the families of the fallen Marines,” Sen. Reid said on the floor of the Senate Tuesday morning.

He continued:

Mr. President, it’s very important we continue training our military, so important. But one of the things in sequester is we cut back in training and maintenance. That’s the way sequester was written. Now, the bill that’s on the floor, we hope to pass today helps that a little bit.

At least in the next six months, it allows the military some degree of ability to move things around a little bit. Flexibility, we call it, and that’s good. But we have to be very vigilant. This sequester should go away. We have cut already huge amounts of money in deficit reduction. It’s just not appropriate, Mr. President, that our military can’t train and do the maintenance necessary.

These men and women, our Marines were training there in Hawthorne. And with this sequester, it’s going to cut back. I just hope everyone understands the sacrifices made by our military. They are significant, being away from home, away from families, away from their country.

Unsurprisingly, the reaction to Sen. Reid’s remarks from certain corners of the U.S. military has been less than enthusiastic.

“I can tell you,” NBC military correspondent Jim Miklaszewski said during an interview on MSNBC, “Marine Corps officials this afternoon are taking a strong exception to what Harry Reid implied, saying that this exercise, for example, was planned well in advance, had nothing to do with the budget cuts.”

“There were no corners cut. And if they couldn’t afford to have all the safety precautions into place, they wouldn’t do the exercise. And in fact, one Marine Corps told us just, one Marine Corps official told us a short time ago that he considers this nothing but pure political posturing on the backs of these dead Marines,” he added.

  And where is the rebuttal from Senator McConnell and/or Congressman Boehner? Why are they not exposing this fool for the shameless political hack that he is? None of those Marines went through basic training since the Sequester because there hasn’t been enough time so lack of training wouldn’t be an issue and I’ll bet that there has been no reduction in staff at the accident site yet, so why are the Republicans not demanding to have him explain what the hell is he talking about? If the roles were reversed (McConnel leading the Senate) and he said something this stupid, the Democrats would be asking for his head, yet nothing but silence from the Republican leadership.   Clearly union run states will never stop voting for people like this. Why not all patriots nationwide start using their money while saving it? No more trips to Nevada, no more business with any entity in the state. Union thugs with no job are simply unemployed fools. Same with California until two very ugly politicians are no longer in office. When the economy in Vegas and Reno crashes from lack of visitors these union thugs who keep rigging voting machines and casting their votes for beasts just might find their votes were not in their best interest. I am sick of history repeating itself. Roman citizens happily watched the games while Nero fiddled. You do the same thing supporting liberal Hollywood. If you care for the future of this nation stop supporting the forces destroying and corrupting it from within. No more movies, no products advertised on any media outlet working against our traditional values. Put them the hell out of business and take away the money you are giving them which they use to destroy all our futures. Surely you can see if you care at all that this peaceful way to overcome the forces of darkness overwhelming from us all sides, is a very good place to start a turnaround before it all gets really bad?   Does anyone really think economic decisions in the last few weeks has any effect on operations being done for years in the same way by soldiers? Do we believe their training started 3 weeks ago? Or is this just another example of corrupt politicians getting the carnage on TV for their political reasons. In the 80′s there was a song on radio talking to this in the media. Time for a new version exposing corrupt politicians. If that band no longer exists maybe they can come out of retirement for another top 40 song.

  There is absolutely no cause and effect. The Marines WERE conducting a training mission in which Harry’s state was the financial beneficiary. We’re I the commandant I would make sure there was NO more training in Nevada, same-same other services. This ASSCLOWN is not, nor ever was a friend of the military. Call his ********.

I’m an ex combat vet 11 Charlie (look it up). Either the round was defective, the tube or AG error. Need to see when the last borescope and pullover was done on that tube. Probably shot the hell out of in the 2 ****** litterboxes. Mortar tubes wear out too. Hang-fire? Ammo bearer improper charge burst the tube. Who knows at this point.

How dare he accuse the dead soldiers of incompetence when he doesn’t even know the facts yet?! Logic would say that soldiers died due to training, so we need to abolish training because training is dangerous. Reality says munitions stockpiles are potentially dangerous and bad things do happen. Training helicopters crash, too. Reid is no living brain trust but it is certainly annoying to have him in our faces being stupid on an ongoing basis.

The Lambourghini from DC Lambourghini given to Senator Harry Reid blew up with him inside of it due to some defect that was blamed on the sequester. Moochelle Obama made 666 pies in honor of the late Senator Reid who loved apple pie, cherry pie, Mom and Chevrolets. A banner over his casket read, “This sequester should go away” was snickered at by funeral attendees realizing the irony in the situation.

Rotten tomatoes and Dog Poo were thrown all over Harry Reid’s casket after this fact was made public. The 666 pies provided by the White House for his memorial mysteriously went missing for the guests and everyone started to cry that they could not have any banana cream pie to honor the late Senator who was really an Ape Loving Atheist in disguise. Harry Reid’s bones have been sequestered by the American Atheist Society so they may now be shaped into the next Darwinian Hoax which will still not prove Evolution. No one objected because they were so pissed that no banana cream pie was available at his lovely memorial service on Capitol Hill.
