Which A-List Hollywood Actor Could Play Moses in the Upcoming Film ‘Exodus’?

Christian Bale In Talks to Play Moses in Exodus Bible Movie | Ridley Scott

Move over Charlton Heston. Actor Christian Bale is reportedly in talks to play Moses in a new rendition of the classic Bible story.

The film, called “Exodus,” is being developed by producer and director Ridley Scott and Fox. And, according to reports, there’s a good chance that Bale will be jumping on board.

Deadline has more about the “Batman” actor’s potential foray into the Moses role:

The project is called Exodus, which was originally scripted by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Peter Chernin and his Chernin Entertainment bought the film as a pitch and they are producing with Scott and his Scott Free, which joined later. Now it has become a big priority after Steve Zaillian signed on to do a rewrite. Zaillian teamed with Scott on American Gangster. Scott is looking to mobilize this as soon as he completes The Counselor. The talks with Bale are early stage.

This comes as Warner Bros deals with Steven Spielberg dropping out of its mega-Moses project, Gods And Kings, the epic-sized film about life of Moses based on the script by Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine. The studio’s Hail Mary pass is trying to secure the services of Ang Lee, fresh from his Oscar win for Life Of Pi.

Considering that quite a bit has changed surrounding how pictures are made since Heston first played Moses in the epic film “Ten Commandments” (circa 1956), a re-boot of the original story will certainly have a market.

As Deadline notes, History’s “The Bible” has seen success this month and numerous feature films with a faith bent have yielded high returns over the past few years.

Whether Bale definitively jumps on board is yet to be seen, but the project — if done well — will certainly spark the intrigue of a cohort that enjoys Judeo-Christian-themed entertainment.

Just one more Hollywood debacle that will crash and burn even before it’s made. What’s next, Lindsay Lohan as the Mother Mary? Oops! I mean is she isn’t already in jail. The recent 90 day rehab sentence is just temporary before the next jail cell.

They certainly won’t have trouble finding enough weasels to play the Pharaoh’s and the part Edward G. Robinson played and Vincent Price. Blacks won’t believe it because they think they were the only slaves in history, liberals won’t see it because they don’t believe in God and kids will only see it to see the special effects and not get any Biblical meaning from it. Conservatives won’t see it because Hollywood is making it. Who is left to see it?

Great choice! This is a truly great actor that even AvengerK could love! Years ago he actually played Jesus Christ – and was pretty good. After that he played the Wall Street magnate naked serial murderer “lady killer” in American Psycho and the rest is history. But he was awesome in in 3:10 to Yuma he played a lame, determined and heroic civil war veteran/role model father and last year a Philadelphia slum crack head in The Fighter. So he knows his way around Republican mindsets, folks. His Dad is a plucky entrepreneur South African jack of all trades and self made man. Christian was born in Wales.

Oh yeah, his step mom is Gloria Steinem, yes, THE Gloria Steinem LOL

Oh yeah, Bale is also the highest grossing Batman EV-AH.

I wonder if there was EVER an ORIGINAL IDEA among these people? SO many people see ONE idea work like gang busters (THE BIBLE on the HISTORY CHANNEL) and they flock to try to copy…dudes…the reason it worked it because it meant something to the Producers. There must be Five hundred thousand amazing great books whose stories could use telling…and you just flock to the remakes as copy-cats to catch what you have figured out is the WAVE??? PLEASE.

Lefty, are you too young for Prince of Egypt? Bible themed movies often do well at the box office. As with other movies based on my favorite books, I am interested in whether or not the script follows the Word. Don’t get me started on Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia series, etc. But I go ballastic if they mess up on the Bible.

This may be an extreme thought, but how does one change Biblical history? Few will buy these new gender/race neutral versions of the Bible. So how do you go about changing what was God inspired to what is man-made without the Spirit? You allow Hollywood to dramatize their version, while misinterpreting the facts and the message.

Ten years down the road. The majority of people associate God’s dealings with Moses and Israel according to Hollywood’s version, which has been far removed from both truth and God-inspired. This has even been true with the Charlton Heston version.

I’d kinda like to see the father on Duck Dynasty play Moses. I would think an actual Christian playing Moses, might be a good start…but Hollywood is probably looking to sexualize the Bible rather than just stick to the facts.

Actually, read the Bible. There is enough sex and violence in it that it is going to need to be censored a little. I once was chastised for barely mentioning that David cut Goliath’s head off when I was really talking about David’s faith in God in the situation. But changing events and which character did/said something really gets me riled up. Stick with the story at the source!

@Kathleen: it’s already been done with Charlton Heston. Hollywood is running out of ideas, so their next plan is to CHANGE HISTORY AND THE TRUTH, afterall, if you tell a lie long enough, it will be believed. THAT’S HOLLYWOOD. And gullible people will believe their stories.

Personally, I do not go to movies anymore because they are full of sex and foul language. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY TO WATCH AND HEAR THAT. Afterall, WWJD? You think he’d be spending the money God blessed him with, to watch that crap? DON’T THINK SO.

I truly believe that if you believe that God has blessed you, then you will be held accountable for those blessings. WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THEM? HOW DID YOU SPEND THE MONEY THAT GOD BLESSED YOU WITH?

A whole lot of people are going to be totally shocked when they have to give God answers to those two questions. I think they will stutter and stumble all over themselves.

      For example:
Did you take God’s money He blessed you with and rent or go to an R-rated movie and then sit thru it?
Did you take God’s money He blessed you with and decide to buy that bottle of liquor and drink all night?
Did you take God’s money He blessed you with and smoke that pack of cigarettes when YOUR BODY IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE TEMPLE OF GOD?
How about what comes out of your mouth? IS IT A BLESSING OR A CURSE?
DO YOU SUPPORT FINANCIALLY, ISRAEL AND GOD’S PEOPLE, INCLUDING CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES?

Look in the mirror and answer honestly before you die.

I have been critical of Hollywood remakes lately which have been terrible ( think Total Recall). I hope this is different and applaude a remake of this story. But I hope it is as inspiring as The Ten Commandments and follows biblical traditions. But I fear Hollywood will use it to show religious belief as something for dummies as they have in the past.

If not as the original Israelites definitely as the ancient ( non -arabic ) Egyptians.

Heres my prediction: Hollywood will remake it, and it will be completely off the bible, and they will push it every Easter, and anytime in between as the “best Moses movie ever” and the one with Charlton Heston will get tossed aside and put under the “B” rated movies, when in fact, it will always be the best one out there. Sometimes its just best to leave some things alone.
