Bob Beckel Explodes With Fury at CBS for Airing ‘Idiotic’ Communist Propaganda: ‘Take That Show and Shove It!’
Bob Beckel, the liberal co-host of Fox News’ “The Five,” had some harsh words for the executives at CBS over the network’s “idiotic” decision to air what some are calling communist propaganda disrespectful to Vietnam veterans.
CBS’ “The Amazing Race” had its contestants travel to Hanoi, Vietnam where they learned communist anthems and were subjected to state propaganda. The contestants also traveled to Vietnam’s B-52 memorial, the site of a downed U.S. B-52 bomber.
Roughly 60,000 Americans died fighting the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong in the Vietnam war.
“I am so outraged by this, I can’t believe it,” Beckel began. “CBS is idiotic, they’re stupid. The idea that they would put something like that on the TV — don’t blame it on young producers. It had to go through somebody at the executive branch at CBS.”
He went on: “If CBS can’t do any better than that, to go to a memorial where Americans died, then you ought to get off the network. Take that show and shove it!”
Beckel also said CBS executives should apologize for the segment.
Watch Beckel’s rant via Fox News (his comments begin at 2:45):
Beckel isn’t the only one furious about the offensive episode of “The Amazing Race.” In addition to Beckel’s co-hosts, several other websites have condemned or acknowledged the controversial content included in the CBS show.
Unfortunately this singing wasnβt the only tactless task. Later in the episode, the teams were required to go to the B-52 Memorial in Hanoi. This memorial is really just a wreckage site, which gloriously displays a shot down American bomber plane. One wonders if it was shot down using the prop from another of the communistsβ big propaganda moments, when Jane Fonda posed grinning on an NVA anti-aircraft gun.
Nearly 60,000 Americans died fighting the Soviet- and Chinese-backed North Vietnamese and Viet Cong. Hundreds of thousands of civilians were massacred in Southeast Asia in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal. For CBS to return to the scene and incorporate anti-American propaganda into a game is insensitive and disrespectful to all Americans who honor the lives lost in the Vietnam War.
However, the viewer vibe turned quickly from sad to mad when the Roadblock forced teams to watch a pro-communism song be performed and then run to another room during a five-minute intermission to search rows of political posters for the Vietnamese phrase revealed at the end of the number. Only Pam got it on take one, and it took two more performances, which one of the country blondes likened to “One Direction,” for the rest of the pairs to put up the right poster. Later on, a clue was hidden at a memorial of a downed B-52 bomber from the Vietnam War. Reaction ranged from threats to quit watching to labeling it “a strange episode” and “disrespectful to Americans killed there.”
Meanwhile, CBSΒ News didn’t acknowledge the potential for outrage:
“[T]he other teams were told to head to Gallery 42, where they’re given a Roadblock. One member of each team had to watch a performance of a patriotic anthem, which included dancers holding up a phrase written on umbrellas. They then had five minutes to find that exact phrase in a room filled with Communist propaganda posters. Those who didn’t find it in time had to watch the performance before they could search again.
[..]
The next destination was the B-52 Memorial, which was the site of the Double U-Turn. Staying true to their alliance, they U-Turn the YouTube hosts. When those two arrived, they U-Turned Chuck and Wynona, putting them even further behind.
No mention from CBS News regarding what the B-52 memorial actually is or how many Americans were killed in the conflict.

Posted on March 20, 2013 at 9:11pmMan I never know where Beckel is coming from, but here he goes again going off on the very libs he usually takes up for. I really don’t see where everyone is so offended or worked-up about, I mean its tacky and all that hell yes but in comparison to what goes on and crap that is said on stations like MSNBC every single day this is nothing. Im surprised that when those kids were at the B-52 crash site that Maddow guy from the fore mentioned network with the bad hair cut wasn’t sitting there with a mike in her hand saying “this is where one of our bombers was shot down for killing innocent vietnameese women and children, and apperantly we are still doing it in other parts of the world still today”. Im just not real shocked about what Beckel is trippin about because like I said in comparison its really nothing.

Posted on March 20, 2013 at 9:54pmI’m not sure I get it. Some kids were given permission to enter and film in Vietnam. I get that. And the video shows someone singing about the joys of Communism (if the translations are real, I personally don’t speak Vietnamese). And then the video shows about 5 seconds of a bus driving by a downed B-52 that the government has enshrined. Is there a link to the actual video these kids made? Can someone provide that? The video is pretty vague.
But I’ll offer an opinion nonetheless. Over 50,000 Americans died in Vietnam and our country spent billions and billions on that undeclared war. I hope all of you visit the Vietnam memorial someday, although that monument only lists the 50K brave Americans who died there, not the far greater number of US soldiers who were maimed (thank goodness our government has supported these heroes with socialist VA medicine) or who were screwed up for life with PTSD, many of whom you can still see on your local street corner with a little cardboard sign.
And what did the United States get for that cost? A video of some kid singing the praises of Communist Vietnam.
Those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them if I got the saying correct more or correct. But, of course we did the same thing in Iraq. When will we learn that things don’t happen like in WWII anymore?
Beckel was either drunk or trying for a raise. And yes, people in Vietnam are nice. They are just people like you and me.

Notice how STM uses the term “kids”.These were adults.
STM further dissembles with since none of us are native speakers, we don’t know what was said, so it is just as likely they were asked to sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic as what was alleged.
I read this bit of STM mendacity & I thought “What a pudding!”. That is exactly what I thought. Except you can drop a syllable form the one of those words. I looked up the word in urban dictionary and the definition #2 accurately described STM.

Posted on March 20, 2013 at 10:59pm2meteors……The problem with what is going on now, is that the drone strikes are killing the Clerics, and in order for that to be OK’d with the elders, we have to sacrifice our Christian pastors here in the US…….That will never happen and the 2nd amendment of this great nation gives us the right to protect our pastors.
So in turn we are stirring up a Hornets nest in the middle east and trust me it will eventually come here, because this president like every other Dem or Lib believes we should have a shared world ideology and welcome the enemy into our school system, so we get what we had recently at UCF where there was a foreign national who wants to kill as many Americans (Infidels) as possible, but that plan was thwarted, trust me and I know this from the middle eastern “men” I dealt with, they want American blood, and they want it now more than ever.
I am sure Dems can figure a way to blame Bush for all of this……..
It would amaze me once in my life, a Democrat would take total responsibility for their actions….Totally accountability…

First, can you really not go a moment without injecting your political views on the medical establishment?
Second, the VA is not socialized medicine, even thought it’s not very good (just like socialized medicine). Socialized medicine, as a general rule, provides a certain and not very high, level of care to all the people of a country regardless of class, current or previous achievement. You’re upper middle class? Well, you get the same treatment as a crackhead.
The VA on the other hand provides care to people who have a significant previous achievement; honorable service in the United States Armed Forces. It does not provide care to some crackhead, or a rich guy. It only serves current and prior military.
Further, the VA preforms a valuable service to the nation, but promising people who enlist or take a commission that they will have at least a basic level of care for injuries they might sustain in combat. Since we’re a volunteer force these days, that’s important. Lot’s of people would choose not to enlist or accept a commission if they thought the government would just toss them aside if they got a leg blown off by a mine or lost an arm in an RPG attack.
The VA performs a service for service members, and to everyone else, by being on the list of benefits of joinin

There is a big difference between paying for medical treatment for soldiers who served their country and having your freedoms taken away by being forced to use government health care against your will. If you have never used it don’t praise it. I served and have used it and I can tell you that government provided health care sucks. Of course you will not agree until you use it. Get ready because you will soon be regretting your beloved socialized medicine and the cost that comes with it. And the cost is not just the actual money but the downgrade in medical care that is provided. The loss of privacy. The way they will control your life through it by telling you what you can and can’t do, or eat. I know your feeble little mind can’t grasp that but you will learn from experience if you have the ability to do so.

Actually, the VA does not provide care for all who have previous service. I served during peace time 1979-1984. Most significant event during my active duty time was participation in Operation Eagle Claw (dismal failure). Was honorably discharged.
I checked into whether or not I was eligible for VA medical benefits about six months ago, but I am not eligible. If I remember correctly, the VA tightened up eligibility requirements some time in the early 90′s.
Oh well, that’s OK, I would rather give up eligibility since I do not have any combat time for Veterens who do have combat time, if we really have to make a choice.

Democrat icon JFK get us involved in Viet Nam (after he blew it with Cuba) and Lyndon Johnson not only escalated the war but prolonged it. You see, Johnson knew that people would only vote for the tax increases he needed to fund his Great Society government-expanding domestic programs if he could say the extra revenues were needed for the troops, so he basically made things impossible for the military by micromanaging this war so that it became the no-win morass it was. Those social programs cost a lot more than anticipated (surprise!), so during this time he and the Democrats in congress began raping the Social Security system as well, turning it into the insolvent funds transfer system that it is today. Of course, since you sing Obama’s praises daily, the concept of singing praises to communism in general is par for the course. For anyone who had friends or relatives involved in the Viet Nam war, it is offensive to say the least.

When the government owns the hospitals or other treatment facilities, and the government pays the doctors, that’s socialized medicine. When the the hospitals etc. are privately owned, and the doctors are self-employed or work for a private firm, that’s not socialized medicine. See the difference? It is not socialism depending on how much you put in.
There is the saying “All gave some, some gave all”. When you give that much you are owed.
The treatment can be provided by the Mayo clinic by private doctors or any other private hospital.
What you don’t do is expect people to fight for a tribe or a nation for free. No do you throw them alongside the road of the get hurt.
Socialism is when you have a welfare mama OF ANY RACE, who says it does matter how many babies she has, you will pay. You know damn well she put little or nothing into the system. I saw such a quote in Time Magazine and I have heard of one on the local news also. It is also true in lily white Sweden. They had so many welfare loafers they had to decrease the welfare benefits to get some of their lily white @$$e$ of their @$$ & to work.
But only progressive would compare a soldier to a life long welfare recipient.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 10:15pmThat wreckage is there to be a constant reminder to Vietnamese of “big, bad America.” Beckel was livid about it and though he and I are miles apart in our country’s politics, the guy woke me to the fact that he loves his country as I do. Good for Bob, he put the blame right where it belonged, he knows the broadcast business. The higher-ups of CBS are idiots!
When I see such wreckage, it can’t be a light, objective moment for me. I saw combat in an Asian war against Communism and remember how our unprepared nation had to sacrifice our military at the outset of that war because Washington, DC was so embarrassingly behind the times. I see a rerun of that coming again, damnit.
A shot-down B-52 instantly brings a boiling sensation in me, I think of that crew that probably was wiped out when that telephone pole-sized SAM hit it. Yeah, that’s how I regard it, I was a lucky guy, I just came back in one piece, married my sweetheart, and we raised three great kids, but memories of that freezing cold Asian landscape are never far below the surface.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 10:56pmAmen Bob Beckel,
Never thought I say that. I was forced to watch that, with my wife and we were both just sickened and disgusted that they would have translated those words onto the screen… It was worse to think that they had to translate that and they would not have been equally disgusted and just left it out… leaving the song would have been almost harmless and only offensive to the vietnease immigrants & speakers if it would not have been tranlated and close captioned. Disgusting and horrifying to our proud vietnam vets. and the memories of those vietniems that were slaughtered when we abandoned the freedom loving vietnamies.
I cannot imagine having to type that closed captioning knowing that my family, friends, co-workers and country would associate or know I had not enough respect for my country, my countrymen, or freedom to refuse or excuse myself ((OH I am horribly sick) you female kitty))

Posted on March 22, 2013 at 12:01amSendTheMeteors, many of the “homeless” that we see on the street corners are neither Viet Nam vets not sufferers of PTSD! There were roughly 2.5 million service members that actually served in country during the entire Viet Nam war. As of the latest census there are approximately 13 million people claiming to be Viet Nam veterans! Of the service members serving in Viet Nam only about ten percent were combat arms troops (infantry, artillery, armor, armored cavalry, air cavalry) The remainder were rear echelon troops that were exposed to little to no danger. The exception being the military police battalions and the Army aviation units which saw action on a daily basis.

Yes, his statement seems out of character for a Liberal leftist. But he’s a lot like a counter-point Bill O’Reilly. Both proudly proclaim their party but like to “slum” with enemy-camp values. In this case, Beckel is STILL not America’s friend, so don’t let his yet-another-fight imply anything more than that. THIS is what this guy is REALLY like (from Wikipedia):
“While in college, he worked for Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1968. Early in his career, he joined the U.S. Department of State and became the youngest deputy assistant secretary of state for the Carter administration.”
“Beckel, a recovering alcoholic, has spoken openly about his past addictions to drugs and alcohol, admitting in July 2011 on The Five: ‘I’m a recovering addict and cocaine was my drug of choice.’ In 2002, Beckel was the victim of an extortion attempt by a prostitute he had hired.”
“On April 16, 2012 .. [on Hannity] Beckel replied, ‘You donβt know what the fΓΉck youβre talking about!’ Beckel [apparently] did not realize the show was back from the commercial break, and initially refused to apologize. When persuaded that the show was, in fact, live, Beckel apologized for his choice of language, but stood by the overall intent of the statement.”
’nuff said?

Posted on March 22, 2013 at 9:50amYou forgot the part where the contestants sat through a performance of pro-communist, anti-American propaganda. You also obviously don’t get the insult to veterans with the use of a B52 crash where Americans died, being used as a prop. That’s one of the sites that the communist Vietnamese government uses as a display of their “victory”. That’s what the outrage is about. Aside from that, I’m surprised that a leftwingnut like Beckel actually took offense.

Hmmm….
I wonder how you would have felt about it if you had lost a family member in Nam?
I wonder how you would have felt if one had come home minus a couple of legs or an arm or two?
Or maybe if a family member had just come home with no visible wounds, but just wakes up in the middle of the night screaming? Sometimes the terror never goes away.
Would you be offended if someone made denigrating remarks about your family member?
Insensitive remarks hurt don’t they?

There is more to consider. Pol Pot received all the proper Marxist education. Nonetheless, there was not one minority group that he did not exterminate Chinese or Vietnamese. Also he ran his country like an oligarchy.
The Vietnamese invaded of about 3 reasons. Pol Pot ethnically cleansing Cambodian of Vietnamese ethnicity & illegal Vietnamese, border provocations & making Communism look bad.

My husband & I are have watched The Amazing Race for the last 2 or 3 years; it’s a nice way to see parts of the World we’ll never visit. But, after seeing the episode last Sunday night, we will be finding something new to do…CBS actually made contestants watch a Communist show over & over until they could match the Vietnamese characters shown at the end. Then they had to get to the B-52 memorial…which just happens to be one of OUR downed airplanes. Americans died there; and the network uses it as just another stop along the way! We were incensed! Vietnam may be a pretty country in some people’s eyes; but I see it as a place where many Americans sacrificed, bled & died. The show should never have used Vietnam.
