CNN Anchor Accuses Glenn Beck of ‘Ugly History’ of Comparing Obama to Satan…Using Selectively-Edited Sound Bites

Glenn Beck on Wednesday responded to CNN’s Erin Burnett’s charge that he has an “ugly history” of comparing President Obama to Satan, arguing that her claim relies solely on selectively edited sound bites. And Beck has the evidence to prove it.

“Do I really think that he is Satan?” he asked on Wednesday. “Absolutely not.”

Beck said that he wasn’t offended by the CNN segment, which was prompted by a lighthearted Tweet he sent out on Sunday:

Rather, Beck said he merely wants CNN to go on the record stating that this is the type of journalism that it wants to be known for.

“I don’t want an apology. Here’s what I want. I want a statement from CNN that says this is the kind of journalism that we believe is the future for CNN,” Beck said “I want them to go on the record. Is this their style of journalism?”

Beck and crew played the beginning of Burnett’s “Beck Thinks Obama Is Satan” segment.

“Beck took to Twitter again and not to clarify. He said this: ‘Media, relax. Actor has been in similar roles before,” Burnett can be heard saying.

“Funny. Nothing more. For different reasons The Bible is one of my fav shows. Keep watching,” she continued, quoting Beck. “Actor has been in similar roles before. In the world of Glenn Beck, that means he’s definitely a ringer for the president.”

Beck explained what he meant:

“Do we ‑‑ who is going to play Satan?  Do we have anybody to play Satan? Well, we’ve got a lot of people. This guy played, this guy played, this guy has played him like six times, he’s really good in ‑‑ he’s really spooky looking.”

“Okay, let me ‑‑ go ahead.  Bring him on in.”

That’s what that means.

Nobody went out in the production team and said, “Who can we get to look just like the president?”

TheBlaze TV crew continued, playing all of Burnett’s montage of Beck’s supposed “ugly history” of comparing President Obama to Satan – and they responded to each and every sound bite.

First, Burnett played clip of Beck saying, “Let me play devil’s advocate, and may mean that literally, and argue for the president here.”

“That’s clearly a joke,” Beck argued.

Next, Burnett played ​a whole flurry of Beck quotes [in order]:

  • “Some of the book of Revelation crazies out there actually believe that Barack Obama is the Antichrist.”
  • “Is it possible that Barack Obama is the Antichrist?”
  • “There are people and they said this about Bill Clinton, that actually believe he might be the Antichrist.”
  • “The government is acting in the role of Lucifer!”
  • “Odds that Barack Obama is the Antichrist?”

“This is really incredible because first of all, all of these clips are from their archives. These are not ‑‑ these are their archived clips from my show that I was doing on CNN five years ago,” Beck joked on Wednesday.

“So to get these clips, they went to their archives. So they have full transcripts. They know exactly what it is.

“They also can just look through in my personnel file and see if I was ever, had a problem calling him the Antichrist, ever. Because I mean, if it was such a problem, you’d think CNN, who’s now reporting on the problem, would have written me up for ‘the problem,” he added.

Now it’s important to note that the entire purpose of the Burnett segment was to prove that Beck supposedly has a troubling history of comparing the president to Satan.

But let’s look at some of the sound bites in context, shall we?

1. “There are people, and they said this about Bill Clinton, that actually believe he might be the Antichrist.”

“This is an interview … with John Hagee who, at the time, was being accused of thinking the president was the Antichrist and they were trying to tie him to John McCain,” Stu Burguiere explained.

“The reason why I talked about this story,” Beck said, “is because this story was out that John McCain was trying to say that maybe he’s the Antichrist and everything else. And so I had John Hagee on to answer it.”

Beck and crew played the full audio clip:

Let me ask you, because I got ‑‑ I get so much e‑mail on this and I think a lot of people do, and I’ve only got a couple of seconds. And they say, “Glenn, you in the media, you’ve got to wake up!  Barack Obama’s making people faint and cry and everything else and he’s drawing people in and…” there are people, and they said this about Bill Clinton, that actually believe he might be the Antichrist.

“No chance,” John Hagee responded to Beck the time, showing that the two clearly dismissed the idea as ludicrous.

2. “Odds that Barack Obama is the Antichrist.”

“You might recognize that as the direct next sentence that you said in the Hagee interview,” Burguiere notes. “So what they did there is they took the same interview two consecutive sentences.”

Yes, Burnett’s production team actually split a video in two to further the narrative that Beck has long and “ugly history” of obsessing over President Obama and Satan.

“If I’m not mistaken, they are two separate camera shots, too. So it looks like a different time.  But if you go back and look at it, you’ll see I’m wearing the same tie and everything else because it’s the next sentence, but they ‑‑ and this is why I say this is propaganda stuff,” Beck said.

“This is totally smear‑and‑slander. They are opening up and making it appear as something that it is absolutely not,” he added.

3. “Some of the book of Revelation crazies out there actually believe that Barack Obama is the Antichrist.”

Here’s the full context:

I was speaking with evangelical pastor John Hagee, we were headed into a break and I asked the self‑professed end‑of‑days expert about the fact that some of the Book of Revelation crazies out there actually believe that Barack Obama is the Antichrist.

“I’m not bringing it up in a separate deal. I am relating the story the very next day,” Beck said on Wednesday.

“When news follows a story, and that’s what this was at the time. This was a news story. It was in the news cycle, and CNN was reporting on it. CNN, not my show.

“I was on CNN Headline, but CNN proper was also reporting on this story. So the next day I’m recapping, I talked about it, and they make it look like again a separate time I’m bringing it up,” he explained.

Stu breaks it down:

  • Clip 1 is a sentence about an interview where you’re asking somebody about this.
  • Clip 2 is the next sentence in that where they split it to make it look like they had more.
  • Clip 3 is the next day. You’re reviewing the same clip of Clip 1 and Clip 2. So they have three clips of this supposed pattern of behavior that are all the same exact interview.

Beck rounded out the debunking session with a little sympathy for Burnett.

“Erin, I know what it’s like to be on the verge of being fired,” he said.

“I know what it’s like to have horrible ratings,” adding that “I think your best ratings were my worst ratings.”

      I think it is important that Glenn at least sets the record straight. I don’t think it is so much that he cares about these people, but there is nothing wrong with defending yourself. When people start spreading rumor and gossip about me and it comes all the way around and I didn’t do anything about it, or at least fight it to some degree, then my entire reputation is ruined for good.

      So Glenn doesn’t need to get in an all-out fist-fight with these people, no. But it is good that he at least sets the record straight.

      I agree with Glenn. He doesn’t think President is the anti-Christ, he just brings it up a lot to increase his viewership to make lots of money off of people like you. And he says the President is going to prevent the 2012 elections (oops) and the Caliphate and FEMA camps and the coming dictatorship (always coming, never arrives) and whatever else the National Enquirer audience is willing to pay for.

      Beck’s a capitalist and knows how to make a buck off of the ill-informed, the uneducated and the paranoid. I give him credit for that.

      I think Tim (Obama in peepee…. ? really ?) must have accidently found his sister’s ecstasy stash, downed 3 tablets with a double shot of Yoohoo laced with a 2 oz shot of mescal and decided it was ok to show his face at the blaze under an even weirder nom de plume than any previously used and subsequently banned shortly thereafter. (even though his Dr’s said that such activity would reignite his psychosis).

      At any rate what does it matter who thinks the Prez is this or that…hell (pardon the pun) the left complained about Bush being Satan (or worse) for 8 years…(rolls eyes) CNN should be ashamed of the product they put on air…I remember when it first started and had a all star cast telling it pretty straight (compared to NBC/ABC/CBS)….they have thrown that legacy away and lost all credibility (something which can never be recovered in this game). New media telling the truth without spin will be the future, the question is will that future reside in the G8 or outside of it on some godforsaken rock in the middle of nowhere.

      @square: While I can appreciate most of what Ron Paul has to say…some of his supporters need to put in a home. Hopefully, you’re not one of those “black helicopters are coming to get me, put tin foil on your head so they can’t read your thoughts” kinda people. Ron Paul has some great ideas but his foreign policy would quite frankly get us ALL nuked or invaded to kingdom come. He sort of mentally lives on a different planet than earth thinking that we can all disarm & sing campfire songs like much of what his foreign policy ideas suggest. The situation you’re referring to regarding Glenn so-called “editing” what Ron Paul said is a bunch of crap. I thank God every day that we don’t have someone like Ron Paul completely running our country. At the same time, we have a complete dope of a different spectrum in the White House right now which is not good either.

      Beck grated on the left by not naming Obama in that “tweet”…he simply said “that guy”. This had the effect of ridiculing Obama even more than if he had directly named him. Empty vessels like Burnett simply could not abide this.

      Brietbart also knew how to do this kind of thing very effectively.

      If you’ve ever watched the series “24″ you’ll see a condensed version of what I’m trying to illustrate here. Jack Bauer does things he knows aren’t noble in and of themselves but that his actions will save countless hundreds or thousands of lives. He’s willing to be the cowboy in the black hat (not a dog whistle). He’s willing to be the one that brutalizes an enemy that counts on civilized people obeying their own rules and constraints. He’s sometimes perceived as a threat himself or a pariah but he gets the job done so that good people can survive.

      We need more Becks and Breitbarts so that we can break down the lefty machine that’s been working it’s agenda for decades without interference. We need men and women willing to use the same dark arts of agitprop and ridicule that the left media and hollywood employ routinely. The Tina Fey/Palin memes. The “Romney killed a guy’s wife” memes. The “war on women” memes. These all worked. They had no basis in truth they were merely tailored to insinuate and smear.

      We need a few more “Jack Bauers” like Beck and Breitbart.

    Some goof ball lady on O’Reillyathon last night made the point 3 or 4 times that satan was the only black character in the entire The Bible event and that satan was in black face of all things.

    Yet Sampson was portrayed by a black man the week prior.

    So obviously she hadn’t watched it, Slick-O hadn’t really watched it and didn’t say anything contrary, and the other guy on the panel hadn’t watched it and didn’t say anything contrary.

    So slick-O does an entire segment on complete crap with people who don’t know crap, which is what slick-O does best.

    Let’s look at the Debra Medina interview where Glenn Beck in an effort to support the GOP establishment Rick Perry, was untruthful and labeled incorrectly Medina a 9-11 truther.

    Glenn also did this when he called Ron Paul supporters terrorists for using the term “moneybomb” to link libertarians to Guy Fawkes and domestic terrorists.

    Glenn Beck is a fraud and hypocrite as he smears and slanders Ron Paul, Debra Medina, and many others all the time.

      Glenn Beck did exactly to Debra Medina what Erin Burnett did to Beck. Both Erin and Glenn used statements and placed spin on them to mean something differently entirely.

      For example, Glenn asked Debra if she would disavow her staff if they believed in any 9-11 truth. This was a deceitful and dishonest tactic by Beck. And it is a hypocrisy that Beck has Judge Napolitano on his show as a 9-11 truther,

      Nonetheless, Medina stated clearly, “I have not taken a position on 9-11.” Medina stated any discussion of 9-11 truth is a federal issue she had no interest in as a Governor for Texas.

      Beck and his vile cohorts immediately stated “that sounded like a yes.” Falsely accusing Medina of being a 9-11 truther.

      Then as a libertarian Medina stated she would not police the thoughts of her staff or control their minds implementing the the true libertarian principles Beck falsely espouses he believes in.

      I want you guys to know you are being deceived by Beck. If hypocrisy was the worse character flaw of Beck, I would not fear he is doing much harm. Beck has a lot of money to make from keeping you guys hooked on his $99.95 a year Blaze TV, Goldline plugs, endless books he has written, and self-promotion of white tent events he profits from.

      He does this while telling his audience to surrender their guns when the govt comes for them and do not protest your rights. That is stifling dissent which leads to tyranny.

      Hagee cannot convert everyone. Atheists in our own nation are always attacking him because they’re too weak to have faith. Hagee believes very much in protecting Israel and welcomes any Jewish brother or sister toward Christianity, and any angry litigious American atheist who’s ready to accept the Lord. He’s preached across Israel and is wise enough to know that the Bible says that Israel belongs to God and his people are his children. Accepting Jesus is the goal for anyone, but that does not mean all Jews or Muslims are going to do it. Hagee is one of the last “Old Testament” preachers. San Antonio has a small, but strong Jewish community and they are supportive of Hagee’s message and extended hands to Israel. He is evangelical. I’m Catholic and I love to hear his sermons. Much respect to Hagee.

      The point is, John Haggee’s movement cannot be labeled as an evangelical or Christian outreach because it lacks the goal of proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ to the Jewish people (the cornerstone of the Christian faith). His movement can be labeled as political or humanitarian at best, but not Christian.

      And I’ve got some news for you. The Jews are not God’s chosen people. God’s chosen people knows no borders or language. God’s chosen people are the ones who have professed faith in His son Jesus Christ for the substitutionary atonement of their sins. Those are God’s chosen people.
