On Tuesday, TheBlaze broke the story about a father who posted a photograph on Facebook showing his son holding a gun and the subsequent visit that man received from police and social services in New Jersey.

Image: Fox News
This morning, “Fox & Friends” had the father and son — Shawn and Josh Moore* — on its show to re-tell the story of the attempt to search and catalog the family’s firearms without a warrant. Here’s the account of the incident in their own words:
“I’ve been shooting guns since I was five,” well-spoken 11-year-old Josh Moore said.
He got the gun for his birthday, he added.
“When they showed up, it was seriously getting me really mad about that one,” he explained.
As for his abilities? “I’m a pretty good shooter.”
Shawn added that the state’s child services department started “threatening” to take his kids if he didn’t show them his guns and let them run the serial numbers. He stood his ground and refused. He said the ordeal lasted about an hour.
Following that interview, TheBlaze again spoke with the Moore’s family lawyer, Evan Nappen. Mr. Nappen told us that the family is still expecting the Department of Youth and Family Services to make another visit to the Moore’s home, possibly with a search warrant.
We will update the story as more information becomes available.
*TheBlaze had been keeping the name of the child private. However we are revealing it now that dad and son have decided to come forward in full.

Mar. 20, 2013 at 6:41pmThese child social services bureauKaRATZ have GOT to be reigned in. They are populated with the most high-handed, low intelligence WOMEN who walk the planet, smugly confident that they, and they alone KNOW how a family should function. (Call me a sexist, I DON’T care. I have NEVER seen a male CYS agent. EVER.)
Never mind that the majority of them have NO CHILDREN, are most likely misandrists and communists who desperately want to dismantle the family unit at any and all costs.
They will stop at nothing to destroy any and all families that have the misfortune of getting in their path.
They are power mad w(b)itchs bent on inserting themselves into all aspects of a family’s life.
They need to be put out of business.

Mar. 20, 2013 at 6:57pmI agree! It become’s very clear why Christie was not invited to CPAC now doesn’t it?
What is wrong with a parent supervising his son with a gun and teaching him how to use one properly? Since when has that become a crime? My father allowed me to shoot a 22 cal rifle when I was 6 years old!
Things are changing, and NOT for the better! The GOVT needs to keep out of people’s lives period!

Mar. 21, 2013 at 6:00pmActually, Al Gator has it exactly right. If this family is smart, they will ask a trusted relative or friend out of state to take and hide their son. There is nothing these child protection services will stop at to have their way in families with children. They are truly Nazis in character. There are many horror stories about the foster care system. I would not allow any chance of my children being taken by the government.

Mar. 20, 2013 at 7:40pmThe picture was nothing that they should be ashamed of posting. I’m sure the young lad was very proud of his birthday present. The post could just as easily have been a picture of him on a new bicycle. Neither is the business of the police or DYFS. We are not villains. There is nothing wrong and everything right with teaching your children about firearm safety, and encouraging their interest in shooting or hunting. We don’t have to hide our interest in guns, or sheepishly admit to owning them. This family did nothing wrong, New Jersey did. I applaud the father for holding firm and sending them on their way.

Mar. 20, 2013 at 11:24amI believe all kids should be taught about guns at a young age. My boy, now 9, started with .22 at age 5. He is now on a precision shooting team, Olympic style, air at 33ft and small bore at 50yrds, standing, kneeling and prone. He has 3 .22 rifles, one, an Anschutz, is for competition, others two for fun. Started him last summer shooting sporting clays with me and he now has a youth 20ga o/u and youth 20ga pump. Guess my point being, he’s grown up with guns, he could two flips about them when we are not shooting, the mystery is gone………but he does love shooting, just like his dad…..

The truth is that kids who learn to respect and see the consequences of using a weapon early in life develop a respect for them that these ******** will never understand. To this day, my dad’s words ring in my mind every time I pick up a firearm: “This gun will kill someone. No extra lives. No redo. He purchased me my first rifle which was a 4 10 shotgun. I have been a hunter since, that was 1960. I don’t see anything wrong with what this father did with his son. fathers have been doing the same for hundred of years, so what is the big deal.
