Obama’s Limo Breaks Down in Tel Aviv After Reported Gas SNAFU: See the Pictures!

Shortly Before He Landed, Obamas Limo Broke Down in Tel Aviv and Had to Be Replaced (Can You Guess Why?)

Despite all its high-tech gadgetry, communications onboard, and defensive armored plating, the White House limo, known as “The Beast” failed to start this morning shortly before President Barack Obama landed in Tel Aviv.

With such a heavy payload – a full eight tons – it’s no wonder its fuel efficiency is only eight miles a gallon. But that point was made moot when the driver apparently filled it with the wrong fuel.

Israel’s Channel Two reported, “The Americans filled it up with diesel, rather than petrol,” suggesting a diplomatic incident was averted because it was the Americans’ fault, not Israel’s.

But Haaretz Correspondent Chemi Shalev reported it was actually the other way around, that the White House driver filled ‘er up with gasoline instead of diesel.

TheBlaze’s Liz Klimas wrote in January about some of the impressive specifications of “The Beast” including:

…a gas tank that won’t explode even upon a direct hit; it has night vision gear; and is so controlled an environment it can keep out a biochemical attack. There are even bottles containing blood matching that of the president’s type in the trunk.

In this graphic from The Daily Mail, it appears the vehicle indeed runs on diesel.

Israeli and Jordanian officials coordinated the swift transfer of a replacement limousine that was already in place at a storage facility in Jordan for Obama’s visit there, according to the Times of Israel.

That replacement was loaded onto a transport plane and flown to Israel.

The New York Times’ Mark Landler who filed the White House travel pool report wrote:

One of the presidential limousines had mechanical trouble and had to be replaced before President Obama’s arrival in Tel Aviv, according to the Secret Service.

“We experienced mechanical trouble with one of the cars,” said Edwin Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service. “We don’t know the cause.”

There have been media reports that the vehicle had been filled with diesel fuel rather than gasoline.

Donovan said the Secret Service “did not have a read on what the specific issue is at this point.”

POTUS was driven in a different vehicle, he said. “That’s why we bring different multiple vehicles,” Mr. Donovan said.

Landler added that the White House will release a statement later.

  Must be a graduate from Washington DC’s public schools. He missed the day they demonstrated the difference between diesel and gasoline (heavy on the alcohol.) Putting diesel in a gas burner virtually ruins the engine. I wonder if the sequester will pay for a new engine???

  Mojo, putting diesel in a gasoline engine won’t hurt it, it will stop running because it won’t burn it. Diesel doesn’t burn in a gasoline engine because the compression on a diesel is a lot higher than a gasser. It may screw up the fuel injection stuff, but on a carb’d engine you can just drain the tank, put in some gasoline and get it going. It will smoke for a bit till all the diesel burns. ;-)

  IMO, I sure don’t see any budget cuts going on with his travel expenses!
  The engine is in fact a Diesel engine, they went with a diesel for several reasons.
  1.Diesel fuel is found in more locations throughout the world.
  2. There’s less risk of a fuel explosion, compared to gasoline.
  3. The limo weighs 8 tons, so it needs all the torque possible to get the Beast moving.
  4. If a gasoline engine was used the mpg would be a noticeably lower.

They didn’t fill it with diesel. The engine finally said “I’m gone” after Oby running that Ethanol crap through it. Nebraska farmers should be proud that they put this poor car out of it’s misery of hauling Michelle’s **** around. (Now they can build a sixth story on their mansions…)

  Wait, this thing gets 8 miles per gallon on DIESEL? Doesn’t diesel usually give you more mileage than gasoline even if it is more expensive? Either Israel’s version is the correct one or that thing guzzles more gas than a tank. Either way, somebody made what would normally be a job-ending mistake but likely won’t be because he successfully wasted taxpayer money. He’ll likely be given a raise.

  It’s a gas engine, but the dopes put diesel in by mistake. I seriously doubt it would have ruined the engine, though. They’ll need to drain the tank, flush the fuel lines… probably replace the fuel filter and maybe even the plugs, finally FILL IT WITH GASOLINE and everything should be ready to go.

  Make no mistake about it. There are tags in large letters at the fuel filler neck stating what kind of fuel to use. This was done on purpose with full knowledge. I have been working on cars for over 30 years. Obama knows this, his goons know this and there will be a hunt for the person responsible. I flat out love that he was embarrassed. Completely deserving. I would shake the hand and buy a case of beer for the dude that pulled it off. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Take that Obama.

This is almost too funny! Here I thought this was going to be a slow, mundane news day. Now we have the latest foible from the Obama Regime. I wonder if they will blame Sequestration? Now for the tech stuff. When diesel is pumped into a gasoline powered vehicle the entire engine and internal wiring will have to be totally replaced. The insides of the “Beast” will have to be stripped to the frame and the repairs will take about three to four weeks. This debacle is as bad as if the limo was hit with an I.E.D.

  If you put regular unleaded gasoline fuel in a diesel car’s tank, at the very least the fuel tank and fuel delivery pumps and pipes will be contaminated and will need to be cleaned out and, if you then start the engine and let it run, it is very likely to be damaged.
  
  Depending on the amount of damage that has been done, the work required could easily cost from one hundred to several hundreds of dollars.

  This is reported as “operator error.” The military in the past has flown fuel trucks from the US to refuel AF-1. For all the security and advance planning done for a presidential trip, this IS a sad joke… a screw up that SOME poor scapegoat will pay heavily for.
