College Student Says He’s Been Suspended After He Refused Prof’s Demand to Stomp on Jesus Sign
Ryan Rotela, a junior at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), is waging a bizarre allegation against his professor, Dr. Deandre Poole.
The student is claiming that he’s been suspended from his intercultural communications class for refusing to write “JESUS” on a sheet of paper, throw it on the floor and then stomp on it — a request that the instructor apparently made.
If you’re already scratching your head, you’re not alone. The curious claim caught the attention of WPEC-TV, a South Florida CBS affiliate.
Rotela, a devout Mormon, says he refused to participate in the purported activity and told Poole that he found the request offensive.

“Anytime you stomp on something it shows that you believe that something has no value. So if you were to stomp on the word Jesus, it says that the word has no value,” Rotela told WPEC-TV.
But the situation purportedly became even more contentious a few days after the alleged paper incident occurred. After Rotela went to his professor’s supervisor to complain, he claims he was suspended from the class.
According to WPEC, here’s how the school responded to an inquiry about the situation:
“Faculty and students at academic institutions pursue knowledge and engage in open discourse. While at times the topics discussed may be sensitive, a university environment is a venue for such dialogue and debate.”
Watch the WPEC-TV show, below:
It’s important to note that this is an allegation and that the other side has not adequately been heard from. TheBlaze called FAU and e-mailed Poole for comment. We have not heard from either party.

Posted on March 22, 2013 at 12:55amThis is simple religious persecution. obama is trying to put the Catholic Church in the trick bag using obama care and the abortion mandates to attack the Catholic Church. I would point out that it may be the Catholic Church now, but what religion will be next. The Catholic Church has shut down some of their adoption agencies where the states have mandated things that they can not accept. Again it is all about religious persecution. All part of Marxist goals. They must destroy religion where ever they can. islam is aliened with the left for now and they will fight it out eventually if they defeat us.

Starting to look like the MSM is at it again, just delivering sensationalism over getting to the real story.
Which isn’t “studend suspended for not jesus stomping” but rather “why is it even part of the curriculum?”
The University commented that the Professor was doing an exercise from the textbook.
“An FAU official defended the decision, telling WPEC that the Jesus-stomping was part of a classroom exercise from a textbook: “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition,” according to the Daily Caller.”
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/03/21/fau-student-suspended-for-not-stomping-on-jesus-56887
So I’m looking into to see if the “exercise” was some form of comparative rationale or what not.

Dear Pro. Poole,
I’m positive that you have received your fair share of hate mail over this incident. Hate accomplishes nothing that is good. Not according to Jesus, Mohammed or Buddha anyway.
I am curious however, if your motive was to teach students about reactions to religious principle or doctrine, there should in my humble uneducated opinion been “no wrong answer”.
Learning instead would have occurred had you examined the thinking of those who quickly stomped the name, those who hesitated before doing so and the one who refused to do so. Just think of the wonderful discussions that could have followed.
What did you intend to teach? In my again humble, uneducated opinion, all that was learned that day was that following your core beliefs and refusing to do something intrinsically wrong to you, results in unbending judgment and punishment. There are those who refuse military service based on their religious beliefs, many ran to Canada and others served honorably without using a weapon.
As a Christian first and an American second, I would have refused to stomp on any religious symbol, regardless of the religion it symbolized. Our constitution wisely instructs us to allow freedom of religious expression, not specifying any particular religion.

Posted on March 27, 2013 at 10:32amOne student, a devout Mormon, was so so disturbed by the exercise that he complained to school officials, saying Poole had offended his religious convictions. The school responded by suspending the student from the class.
While the incident has made the news, the media has failed to report a key component of Poole’s resume: He is vice-chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party. His recent actions add fire to an already-disturbing pattern of hate coming out of the local party.
Mark Siegel, the former chairman of the county Democratic Party, was forced to resign in September under a barrage of criticism over an anti-Christian tirade at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
Siegel, who is Jewish, told an interviewer at the convention that pro-Israel Christians want to see Jews “slaughtered.”
“Oh no, the Christians just want us to be there so we can all be slaughtered and converted and bring on the second coming of Jesus Christ,” he said at the time.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 4:55pmI do hope if this is indeed true, that the student go directly to a constitutional LAWYER. However, after this, I would then ask for all my money back and then enroll in another more conservative college.
Let the liberals hang with themselves. But, at the same time, I AM ALL FOR FIGHTING THEM LEGALLY, TOOTH AND NAIL – all the way to the Supreme Court, if you have to.
When I was in college, my Prof tried to tell us that gays are BORN THAT WAY with a certain type of gene AND during a class discussion, I first asked, if it was ok if I mentioned that I was a person of faith. She agreed. I then told her then that if this is so, then the Bible would be untrue and it is like calling God a liar when he gives scripture after scripture NOT to engage in any homosexual activities. It was a very lively discussion, but there was no concrete answer. AND, no one persecuted me or anyone else. There were several gays in my class and we had studied together. I had no problem with this as long as they didn’t hit on me. THEY DID NOT.
There is no civility or open-mindness anymore. It’s just the left forcing you to accept their ideas. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP and it is up to you, the American people TO PUSH BACK, AND PUSH BACK HARD (without violence). No nasty words, JUST FACTS.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 7:10pmDefinitely do not have to wonder, do we! If we don’t take the colleges and universities back, it will be difficult to take our schools back as the libfard professors are brain washing most students who haven’t been grounded before they got to college, and colleges of teaching are specifically set up to liberally indoctrinate future teachers. In addition text books have been rewritten to rewrite (fabricating)history. Definitely have a gargantuan task to take this country back. Can be done; not sitting on our cans though. May have to get a little physical too. Also, definitely don’t go along with any gun controls whatsoever. May have to use them – unfortunately probably sooner than later.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 4:19pm762 – not quite the same analogy, I mean afterall who really believes in either of those two – it’s a lose nothing to gain something proposition. Granted if you’re a non believer the same could be said of the Jesus/mohammed argument as well but in this situation if you’re a believer it’s probably mostly negative. Not only is evil tricking you into commiting an act against good so that you are thus allowed to commit that act against evil it doesn’t necessarily balance out at least to me though some would say karmically it should but I think Evil comes out ahead and you neutral at best in this comparison. That and you’re now a racist and will likely be put in jail on hate crimes after performing such an action even if you negotiated such terms and it was a class project.

And there was a sign on the wall that said you’ll get kicked out of the class for eating? It sounds more like a preschool Bible class than anything else to me. I don’t know what to think about the “kicked out of class thing” if it was a public school of any kind, or a university class. That doesn’t compute from anything in my experience. And your liberal friends wanted you to attend? Why? To expose you to religion? Durn liberals! They always want people to attend religious stuff, and tell their professor to convince a kid to attend. I’ve never heard of that, but maybe.
Look Monk, you’re okay, but your story doesn’t make sense with details you’ve given, and actually the more details you give, the less sense it makes. You’re story doesn’t add up.
You know what though? I don’t care. Doesn’t mean a thing. I still think you’re okay.

- Physicists defer only to mathematicians, mathematicians defer only to God.
- A topologist is a person who doesn’t know the difference between a coffee cup and a doughnut.
- Math is the language God used to write the universe.

What we’ve done to the current generation through “education” is abominable. Pick a major city and see what their graduation rates are. I know one HS in Pasadena where the grad rate is less than 50%.

Need tape or a corroborating witness or it didn’t happen. Not that you can prove. Then again mind scans are coming along.
If a prof asks you to do something like this, demur, leave, wire up, come back, meet with the prof & say you are thinking about it, then take tape to the media, school administration and lawyer & nail his rotten @$$ to the wall.
Reminds me of the university prof that demanded BJs from women with low grades to get them changed to an A. Different Demand same MO.

Posted on March 21, 2013 at 3:16pmNo, that would have been considered an ‘assault’ on the professor and could be interpreted as a threat.
Christ is ‘dead’ for many in the world and some argue he never existed. To a Christian though, he is living and their savior. To ask a Christian to do something like this is horrendous. It is very insulting and had this person been my ‘professor’ I would have asked him clearly what he is attempting to ‘teach’ and offered some other in-offensive method to get to the same thing.
Teachers cannot teach students that do not respect them. Students will not respect a teacher that does not respect them as well. Therefore, Teachers must respect their students in order to teach effectively.
This ‘teacher’ failed to give proper respect and is not worthy of the title of teacher.

Story should have led (instead of ended) with: “It’s important to note that this is an allegation and that the other side has not adequately been heard from. TheBlaze called FAU and e-mailed Poole for comment. We have not heard from either party.”
Or better yet… How about waiting until your staff has greater detail on the entire story BEFORE bringing to print.

Posted on March 22, 2013 at 3:34pmHad this exercise been to examine the reactions of the students there would not been a punishment for refusal but a discussion of the many different reactions seen in the class room to the request. That would have been a learning experiance. BUT, this was not about learning it was about desecrating the name of the Greatest spiritual leader in the world who we Christians know to be the Son of our God. I feel incredibly sad and bad for the students so lacking in moral character that they did not refuse to do this. I would not stomp on the name Mohammed or Buddha either but that’s out of respect for another’s right to believe as they wish. Isn’t that what America believes in, that is the freedom of religious expression? Sorry atheist, I didn’t mean you leave you out but your religion doesn’t offer anything to stomp, love or hate and you can’t stomp on nothing, there is no such thing as empty space on this planet.

Ah yes, the ‘inclusive’ attitude of the Left… so different from the spirited but accepting differences in viewpoints here when you talk about topics that we have differing opinions on.

Unfortunately, there are many self-proclaimed Christians that would not think twice about it before doing it. Worse yet, there are those who proclaim to be Christians that openly mock Christ by taking positions in direct opposition to Christ’s teachings.
It’s one thing to error in obeying God’s commandments. We all fall short. However, it is quite another to dismiss God’s commandment and take an opposing view/position.

The thing is, I’m not so sure the claim to be a Christian is legit if a person cn do that. How can you say Jesus is Lord or even that you are following him, if you oppose him on issues. He’ll judge in the end, but it sure doesn’t line up as far as I’m concerned.

We believe all God has revealed, all He does reveal, and believe that He will reveal more…you believe (apparently), that God has said all He has to say.
We believe, as Amos 3:7 says: Surely The Lord God will do nothing, except He reveal with His secrets through prophets.”
He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow…He has always used prophets, and He always will.

If your suggestion is to read the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as written by those who lived it, please do so.
If you are suggesting one to read the words of The Book of Mormon and take the challenge extended by a Prophet of God to prove whether The Book of Mormon is the word of God, please do so.
If you are suggesting attending church meetings to witness the reverence held for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to witness the use of God’s authority (i.e., Priesthood) given to man to officiate His Church and perform saving ordinances, please do so.
If you are suggesting the investigation of writings by those who oppose The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I would pose this question……If I want to know about Catholicism, should I go to a Protestant or if I want to know about Buddism, should I go to a Muslim? No. If I want to know about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I would go to their website (lds.org) or have conversations with their missionaries or attend their meeting houses.
God gave man intelligence and expects him to use it in this life. God is also alive and reveals truth. Revelation exists and God will give it to any man or woman who seeks it. The Bible makes this point abundantly clear.

To imply that because you are a Morman makes you less likely, well Harry Reid identifies himself as a Morman, anything else needed to be said? We are all Christians if we follow Christ, denomination is just the means in which we follow/study the teachings of Christ. The commitment we each make to those teachings, that’s a matter for God to judge, not you or I.
