Dem Rep. Makes WILDLY Inaccurate Claim About Number of Children Killed With So-Called ‘Assault Weapons’

Democrat Charlie Rangel Claims Millions of Children Are Dying From Assault Weapons

FILE – In this June 7, 2012 file photo, Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y. speaks during a news conference on Capitol Hill. Credit: AP

Attempting to show how huge of a mistake it was to drop the ban on so-called “assault weapons” from the Senate’s gun control bill, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on MSNBC Thursday claimed “millions of kids” are dying at the hands of these weapons and Congress is failing to act.

Rangel blamed the National Rifle Association, politics and money for the gun ban’s failure.

“I’m ashamed to admit it but its politics and its money, The NRA has taken this position, there is no reason, there is no foundation. There is no hunter that needs automatic military weapons to enjoy the culture of going hunting,” Rangel began. “But you know it’s really basically the absence of the voices of good people. I cannot believe that politicians are afraid of the NRA.”

He went on: “We’re talking about millions of kids dying — being shot down by assault weapons, were talking about handguns easier in the inner cities, to get these guns in the inner cities, than to get computers. This is not just a political issue, it’s a moral issue and so when we condemn the NRA we should not ignore the fact that a lot of people that have taken moral positions have been solid on this big one.”

Watch his comments via MSNBC below:

Rangel’s assertion is so ridiculously false, it’s hard to really put it into perspective. But let’s try.

According to FBI data, just 358 people — of all ages — were killed with “rifles” in 2010. In fact, more people were killed by hands and feet (745), knifes (1,704) and shotguns (373) than with rifles that same year. As Fox Nation points out, the total number of gun homicides in 2011 was 8,583, still exponentially lower than Rangel’s estimation of murders involving so-called “assault weapons” alone.

Using the 2011 total gun-related murder rate, it would take more than 116 years for one million people to be killed by a firearm. Additionally, it would take more than 2,793 years for one million people to be killed with rifles, or what Rangel calls “assault weapons,” according to the 2010 FBI data.

Now, that does not lessen the impact of such a horrific tragedy like the Newtown massacre, however, the United States will never be able to have a meaningful debate about guns as long as such blatant lies are being used to demonize firearms.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Number of mass shooting deaths per year attributed to so called assault weapons 35.

These imaginary weapons actually account for only 2 – 8% of firearms homicides each year.

Isn’t it strange that this report got NO MENTION AT ALL from the “news” agencies. I would think that this information would be plastered all-over the WH website as evidence to back their assertions about “assault weapons”.
It’s a damned thing when the facts don’t support the ideology they’re pushing.

What is the acceptable number of children’s death per year from AR-15?

Just curious how many are the acceptable limit when culling a local schoolyard, to protect the indigenous life forms. Say in Sandy Hook for instance?

Is there an NRA bag limit?

Newton, the AR-15 is not a lot different from a 30-06, a 30-30 or an AK-47 or my .22LR. They are all NOT automatic weapons. They do kill anything on their own. IT is the nuts behind them like the nuts behind the wheel of a car that need to be dealt with. When we had too many drunk driving deaths did we ban cars? Do we ban hammers because they are too dangerous? Instead of knee jerking and wasting way too much effort on useless things how about we begin discussing better mental health care and control?

If Liberals were so concerned about saving the lives of children, they’d be trying to shut down Planned Parenthood. Let’s see… in 2009, 2,793 children were killed by guns and 784,507 children were murdered by abortionists. You Liberals have zero moral authority on this issue.

Gun control is not about saving lives, it’s about fascists who want to bully you into submission without fear of reprisal. Our founding fathers didn’t give us the 2nd Amendment so we can hunt deer, they gave it to us so we can protect ourselves from people like Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Charlie Rangel.

Let me repeat myself again (and I’ll keep repeating myself until this point gets through the thick heads of people who don’t understand Our Constitution)… gun control has nothing to do with saving lives, it has to do with Liberals wanting to push around the America People with impunity. In Korea he was assigned to the 503rd Artillery Battalion, which was an all Black unit, but it was part of the 2nd Infantry Division, not what you claimed. In addition he received a Bronz Star for leading 40 men back to friendly lines, which is indeed heroic, but there was no mention of any involvement on his part in hand to hand combat. Unfortunately he also cheated on his taxes while in charge of the House Committee whose main concern is taxes.

Far worse than his idiotic ‘math’ is this nugget in the quote:

“The NRA has taken this position, there is no reason, there is no foundation. There is no hunter that needs automatic military weapons to enjoy the culture of going hunting,” Rangel began. “But you know it’s really basically the absence of the voices of good people. No reason? -Hunting?!- What the bleep? Has he been on Mars for the past year? Or century?

It’s to protect we the people from creeps like you, genius. Politicians being afraid (in the good sense of knowing they HAVE to respect us, so you’re not tempted to abuse your power) is the whole point of the Second Amendment, and that is the foundation, the reason.

      Not hunting. Yeesh.

Tell me, what are you willing to destroy for the sake of getting rid of those guns? The hundred of cops and resistors who will die in efforts to take those weapons? A nation whose unity is utterly destroyed? All for the sake of “doing something.”

Until you are willing to think of the consequences of your actions, do not presume you have the right to judge us for being content with the status quo. Those children’s deaths do not belong on my head any more than yours, stop trying to paint people with their blood.

“Arnold then became a British officer and saw important action in the American theater. In December, under orders from Clinton, Arnold led a force of 1,600 troops into Virginia and captured Richmond, cutting off the major artery of material to the southern colonial effort. It is said that Arnold asked an officer he had taken captive about what the Americans would do if they captured him, and the captain is said to have replied “Cut off your right leg, bury it with full military honors, and then hang the rest of you on a gibbet.”

Thanks to those of you who actually stayed on topic. I actually learned a bit about Rangel that I did not know. Not being one of his constituents, I had no idea he was a criminal all these years.

Many of you decided to argue the morality of abortion or the existence of a Revolutionary War traitor who was first a hero. Some of you just trued to be as unpleasant as possible. I would say the majority of your retorts were off base rhetoric – but you be the judge.

Nobody answered my question. 762 x 51 stated: “These imaginary weapons actually account for only 2 – 8% of firearms homicides each year.” To explore that point, I asked: “What is the acceptable number of children’s death per year from AR-15?”

I was hoping to get a cost/benefit analysis or risk assessment form some educated person, which obviously I am not. But instead the majority went on tangents to avoid my question.

Frankly, eight percent of 11,078 gun homicides in 2011 is fine with me. Nice population size, easy to contain and bury, very affordable in the US, will not overtax the system, even if sequestered.

      That’s just 880 folks.
and 880 folks is less than 6% of all murders in 2011, because 35 percent of homicides don’t even use guns at all.

From Sandy Hook Line and Sinker we have never seen one picture of the so-called “assault rifle” or a single crime scene photo. For all we know, less than five people were killed (including the attacker) and that he used a knife, perhaps not even a very big one at that. Now this fool Dem spouts about “millions of kids killed” by the same type of weapon. I wonder if this follows the same blame game when Maxine Waters (Dem. California) announced that the Sequester would cost more than 147 million jobs? So here we go again. Liberalism is truly a mental illness!

I am ashamed to live in N.Y. State, where sensationalism, and headline grabbing is business as usual! Lies are only lies if you are caught in one! On the other hand, “Hundreds of Millions of New Yorkers feel that everyone should be required to own at least three firearms. A Shotgun, a pistol, and a fully automatic rifle.” HOW WAS THAT FOR A LIE?

Oh yah, last year over 50 gazillion people were blinded when you took off your shirt in the Dominican Republic, and 100 gazillion people lost their lunch. So I think we should ban Charlie from ever taking his shirt off in public, and he should be forced to wear a burka, along with Nancy pelosi and Patty Murray, just looking at them makes me sick.

Maybe this is the new standard to coming up with laws, make up statistics and then pass knee jerk bills.

along with the 170,000,000 jobs that will be lost due to sequestration.
maybe that’s how ol’ charlie got into such trouble with his finances… you remember, the illegal dealings that would have landed you or i in jail? That congress… did they censure or did they merely reprimand… no expulsion, no serverance of pension.

And sadly he likely believes those numbers… the bad black rifle is so lethal it has to be stopped! Who cares about facts! Vote with your heart, don’t bother with your head.

One more time, Charlie, i’ll use small words. the bill of rights #2 is NOT for hunting. These are not machine guns. but since you mention it, yes we should be able to own them too. and what is immoral is trying to destroy what this country stands for. so stand up and protect the nation, charlie… do what you swore to do, stop trying to attack the bill of rights, Charlie.

and if you cannot do what you swore to do, step down. quit. retire. and try to get facts, Charlie, it will keep you from saying more dumb things (maybe)

Speaking about gun violence, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) claimed ” “We’re talking about millions of kids dying ….”

He’s right. However, it’s not gun violence that is ending the lives of millions of innocent American children; it’s abortion. In one year alone, 2007, abortion ended the lives of 1,210,000 (1.21 MILLION) American children, according to the United States Census Bureau. That’s more than the number of people murdered by the Nazis at Auschwitz during all the years of its operation. It’s also more than the entire population of Dallas, TX–America’s ninth largest city.

In that same year, 12,632 Americans of all ages were killed as a result of gun violence–nearly a hundred times less than from abortion.

He’s just part of the machine. I friend of my family, who just happens to be a repeat guest speaker for world hunger at the U. N. told us of the things that are occurring in the US point to the decimation of the middle class. That’s the real target with g-control. Think about it. Look who has body guards now, entertainers, sports figures, the uber wealthy. Think how you won’t be able to protect yourself or your family like that, therefore you automatically become the new lower, ‘groveling,’ class.

Don’t forget that “assault weapons” are only a fraction of the total rifle count. Plenty of people die from bolt action and smaller rimfire caliber guns, as well as semi-automatics that don’t fit the visual description of assault weapons.

Assault is a behavior, not a category of firearm.

Millions of kids killed by “assault weapons” Charlie? How many would still be alive if you paid your fair share of taxes instead of cheating on them? Hey…..why can’t I make such a foolish leap?

Rangel has no credibility left, and only spouts insane things like this to steer attention away from his own history of corruption. The man should have already been out on ethics violations (not to mention actual law-breaking, i.e., bribery) The sooner he’s gone the sooner-perhaps-someone with a bit of class gets elected.
