It is well known that violence against Christians in Islamic countries is growing exponentially. As churches are being ransacked and burned, and a growing number of Christians are imprisoned or executed, Patriarch of the Church of Antioch has warned Pope Francis about the mounting dangers for Christians in the Middle East.
“The crises in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, are endangering Christians present in the region,” Patriarch Gregory III Laham told the Greek news outlet Adnkronos International (AKI). The Syrian-born Patriarch was quoting a letter he had written to Francis.
“Interfaith dialogue and coexistence between Islam and Christianity are also in jeopardy,” he said.
Francis, who some consider well-versed on issues pertaining to the Middle East, might, “God willing” place the plight of Christians in Islamic countries “high on his list of priorities,” the Patriarch added.
And it would be none too soon. Human rights activists championing for Egypt’s persecuted Coptic Christian community had its pleas go unanswered by the Vatican under Pope Benedict XVI. Ashraf Ramelah, director of Voice of the Copts, has noted of life for Christians under the Muslim Brotherhood:
The plight of the Egyptian Christians today entails Christian women living in fear of attacks by Muslim gangs because they do not wear the veil. As before, Christians are subject to open discrimination by Muslim Koran-adherents who frequently commit acts of destruction of Christian property and routinely threaten and take the lives of Copts. Muslim mobs randomly bomb church buildings, set them on fire or use bulldozers and hatchets to demolish them — this violence now accelerated under Morsi. Worshippers coming and going from church are at high risk of never returning home, a familiar scenario for Copts.
As Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio (now Pope Francis) was responsible for the Catholic community in the Middle East, acting as a point person for emigres from Lebanon, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries.
“I hope that the Pope will ensure a better future for all Arab countries and their peoples,” concluded the Syrian-born patriarch, who is also the spiritual leader of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.

Mar. 22, 2013 at 7:18amThat’s like asking NASA to protect nuclear reactors from getting hit by “city killers”, politicians basically don’t care, and probably pray behind closed doors, oh please let one get hit? Seriously, how can you send non-lethal and military aid to Islamic countries without supporting the religion of Islam? It also means you try twice as hard to forge relations with Russia and or India to sell the virtues of freedom and the concepts of limited government, and ask Turkey to politely leave NATO?
Winning the minds of people in India is very achievable? The problem is not that people in Islamic countries do not hear the gospel, they reject it, so there is no sin in leaving those countries? The world is not going to revolve around the happiness of the followers of Islam, and there is an easy solution, just tell their women to chop off their egg rolls if they don’t know how to be nice?
Well how do you think American women keep their men in line? They say go ahead, go after that bimbo, I’ll chop it off when you are asleep? Well, might as well, if you have to live in bomb shelters all the time, one less thing to worry about? This is really easy, you say to your husband look dude, if we end up living in a bomb shelter, I’m going to chop that thing off?
How do you think we got through the cold war? Drinking at the bar, or cowering in bomb shelters hoping our women don’t chop it off?

Mar. 22, 2013 at 5:36amTime for another Holy war. Maybe all of the evil Christians and evil Muslims can fight each other and make the world a better place. The less religion we have in this world the better. All one has to do is watch The Bible program on History Channel to see all of the war and bloodshed caused by religion. God is in YOU, not in the CHURCH. And I love that the racist Philistines who were against Sampson and mixed marriage are depicted as very evil in the movie. Philistines must represent what we now now as the racist South in America. Hated, and crumbling fast. I love it.

Mar. 22, 2013 at 10:35am@JMAN- not this current crop. The ancient Romans named the region Palestine after the Philistines to tick off the Jews, but they were a people group originally from Crete and were dying off by that time. Those who currently refer to themselves as Palestinians are of southern Syrian origin and are so wild that even their fellow Arabs don’t like them. Only insofar as they’re a thorn in the Jews’ side are they tolerated.

It is not just Christians in the Middle East, but also Christians in Africa, China, and other parts of Asia. These stories are not reported very often in the MSM.
Everyday some atrocity happens by people who hate — even blowing up people inside their churches during services. (this is popular in Africa)
And mostly the governments in these places are either COMPLICIT… or helpless against it.
And, of course, bishops and cardinals around the world have been quite aware of it. The publicity on this story wasn’t about information getting to Pope Francis. It is about getting it to YOU because the MSM doesn’t report it.

Mar. 22, 2013 at 12:46amPope Francis and all leaders of every Christian church and every Christian on earth should be outraged at the treatment of their brothers and sisters in Christ suffering torture and martyrdom in these Muslim countries. This outrage should take the form of severe condemnation and all possible diplomatic, economic and military sanctions. The following picture shows Muslim annihilation of Nigerian Christians by burning them alive–extremely graphic:

Mar. 21, 2013 at 11:37pmFor how many months have we been seeing stories that they’re crucifying Christians in the Middle East? The letter should have said, “there are still a few Christians left in the Middle East, not sure for how long!”
What would the Pope do about it? Go immediately to the Middle East and hold a communion? It’s prayer to the True God, which might show a way to help them, but the best help is if He acts against those acting against His people. Soon the Israelies in the Middle East will have the same plight if not, we’ll be following close behind them.

The muslims in the region used to have a good respect for Pope John Paul II. Then they became incensed at Pope Benedict XVI because of a quote that he had read, even though that quote originated by another person. In any case, they do see the Pope as a holy person, and could rethink their actions if the Pope has something to say about it.

Mar. 21, 2013 at 11:20pmRadical Islam can not and will never destroy believers in the One True God. It’s just that they are deluded into believing that their version is the only version. Just like the Extremists in Christianity believe that they must follow “Christ (which is his label/title in Greek) Jesus”. Even Jesus did not follow himself and pointed others to worship the One True God. The same God that asked Abraham/Avram to sacrifice his son Isaac (son of promise) not Ishmael (his first born with Hagar).
And now Radicalized Muslims continue to fight the 12th Century Defeat of Islam to Christian Crusaders, and continue to use it as an excuse to murder potential followers if only they believed in the One True God. But Radicals don’t follow any God but their own failed understanding and it will lead the world to the One True God because many will turn to him in time of chaos and crisis.

Mar. 21, 2013 at 10:44pmFebruary 4, 1972: “Thy have asked, are thy Christians? And we should answer in this manner. You are the people and the children of God. And for all those, regardless of what word they should use to call themselves, who should bow before God and give reverence into the same, we have told thee before, do not confuse this one that is called Jesus, the Christ, with your God, for he was put before man by God.
And the Lord said unto this one, ‘GO UNTO MY PEOPLE. GO IN PURE FORM. GIVE THEM UNTO MY WORDS FOR THIS TIME.’
And so, he did into which he was told. And he did give glory unto his Lord.
And now, we say unto thee, we give into thee a new coveth for your time. But do not take away or destroy anything. This is to add to what you already possess. As has been said before — we come not to change the prophecies, we come not to change the Laws, but to show you the fulfillment of the same.
If one should ask thee, ‘What are thy called,’ tell them you are the people of God. Should they ask further, ‘Are thy Christian, are thy Buddha, are thy Mohammed,’ say, ‘Yes, I and we are all of these.’”
