Rand Paul Has a ‘News Flash’ for Coulter, Limbaugh and Other Critics of Immigration Reform

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) responded Thursday to critics on the right who say the immigration reform he supports will be catastrophic to the Republican Party and, more importantly, the country.

“I’ve got a news flash for those who want to call people names on amnesty: What we have now is de facto amnesty,” he said during an appearance on Fox News.

Sen. Paul’s comments were prompted by Fox anchor Bill Hemmer saying said that the Republican senator’s immigration speech on Tuesday has made him a “ripe target†for conservative critics, including Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.

“People like Coulter and Limbaugh say people like you are being suckered into an agreement here,†Hemmer said. “What they argue is that conservative principles should not be sacrificed here, it’s that the Republican message has been lost in the process. What would you say to that?â€

“We have 11 million people here. They’ve been here, some of them, for a decade or more. No one is telling them to go home, no one’s sending them home,†Sen. Paul responded.

The senator continued, explaining his reform proposals in detail. From there, he turned his attention to Coulter who has repeatedly said that Republicans will never win another election if they embrace amnesty.

“If amnesty goes through, America becomes California and no Republican will ever win another national election,” Coulter said last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Paul responded: “Here’s another news flash: We haven’t been too competitive in the last two national elections.â€

Yeah, Rand, it is de facto amnesty, agreed. But YOU are on the wrong side of this issue.

Existing law *is not* being enforced, that is the PROBLEM!

No new paths, modified paths or any other paths, outside of existing law, are needed nor necessary.

You really are going to have to look at the overall effects of what you are proposing, which would be BY LAW amnesty (not de facto), and hopefully change your mind on the subject OR you can kiss whatever chances you have of possibly becoming President GOOD BYE, as you won’t even be the nominee with your current view on the matter.

How can there ever be any hope for a 3rd party candidacy when anyone who tries something new is immediately squashed by the old guard? If there is no room in a party for dissent of ANY of the parties ideas their will only be echoes of “but they must have cheated……” as the old party shakes hands with the WHIGS…

Thank you. It doesn’t take much for a good mans will to become shaken and for that good man to fall. Even if he states that he will not consider voting for a plan that includes ANY kind of amnesty until after first sealing the borders, it is still a consideration of amnesty. I, my family, my friends and colleagues are all expected to obey U.S. law as citizens. If ever illegally present, non-citizens are rewarded with that very thing which they have attempted to steal there becomes a double standard. Citizens punished for not obeying the U.S. laws, non-citizens rewarded for the same. Why is it that the dangers and ramifications of propagating such a double standard seem to be so hard for politicians to understand? Amnesty for illegal activity must never be provided or else why should anyone obey US law? They say there are too many hear to deport? I say, then you better get cracking NOW!

I think the *new* idea is to enforce current law instead of ignore it… which is what both parties have been guilty of for a long time now. Amnesty, in any form, that has been implemented in the past has only led to more people coming here illegally.

Rand Paul is playing the game like a long-serving politician, probably because of the help he gets from Dad. If he really believes deeply in his stances about Immigration then he should consider to shut down any lofty ideas he may have had about running for POTUS.
The way he is playing the game shows me that he’s only worried about HIS NEXT ELECTION, and the future OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. His concern for doing the right thing for the country doesn’t even enter the equation.
And for all you 3rd party people… I love the idea. However, I will do everything in my power to see that
the Republican Party, the Democrat Party, and the Libertarian Party, have the same future as did Disco music.

RAND PAUL IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS ISSUE. SO IS MARCO RUBIO. DUH. WAKE UP PEOPLE. THE Illegals are HERE. WE cannot round them up and send them back. Many of them have been here for decade(s). FIRST we close the borders. OKAY? THEN we sort out the crooks, criminals and send them back. OKAY? THEN we have those left pay a fine, get in the back of the line, but at least we know who and where they are for sure and they begin to pay taxes. THAT IS CALLED DEALING WITH REALITY.
YOU IDEOLOGUES are no better than the CODE PINKOS .. First you face REALITY. THEN you determine the GOAL. THEN working from the GOAL back to your point today, you Identify the steps.
THEN YOU DO IT. I believe that RAND PAUL and/or MARCO RUBIO can do this. FIRST STOP THE BLEEDING….close the borders.
OTHERWISE, people… you will be running around and around in circles forever. AND MCCAIN/GRAHAM: SU. YOU could have made the Senate demand closed borders, but you have nothing to you but mouths. YOU are all talk and no action. Step aside.

I agree with Senator Paul. The establishment Republican Party (lower case intentional) has not done much to build the fence, deport illegals or limit their entitlements (Medicaid/food stamps). I would rather see a path to full citizenship for:
      1. People who enter legally, without a criminal record.
      2. Who pay taxes.
      3. Who learn English, this is a deal breaker, NO drivers license or ballots in any language other than English.
      4. Enlistees are automatically granted citizenship after a 4 year enlistment, a civics test and an English proficiency test .
This criteria would render them more American than ANY liberal.

Note to Soybomb, let us unite to change the current paradigm and seize back our country.

I think you’re misunderstanding. Rand is talking about a practical way to get to a point where – after 50 years of not enforcing the law at all – we can actually begin enforcing the law and and start making it the rule instead of the exception. If you, on the other hand, want to run for President on a ticket of rounding up tens of millions of people and sending them to Mexico when their main offense has been agreeing with the policy of the United States for the past 50 years (come across the border and you can make money and we’ll get cheap labor) then go ahead and campaign on rounding them up. Let me know if you get elected. This problem took decades to create. Issuing millions of work visas would probably be a good way out of it.

Patty you are not entirely correct. Though I agree with PART of your premise. We COULD set up a system where biometric guest worker cards were only issued in consulates and embassies outside of the US and fine every employer of illegals 50,000 dollars for each violation. That would deport the illegals pronto. However,NONE of our politicians tienen Los cajones to actually do this. If we are to allow these illegals to continue residence we should set up some strict conditions like no MS13 facial tattoos, no Medicaid and no foodstamps. Life is tough and our country cannot afford to be a “social safety net” for Latin America.

They have appropriated millions of dollars to build a fence but somehow we cannot find any fence builders. We haven’t got one built yet. So, I don’t think they really want to.”

“We’ve got about 12 million illegals here. How do you get 12 million accidentally? I think it was done on purpose. Because I think these people have a plan”

“It is the time for the New World Order’s economic system to be implemented. Nation ID will be required to hold a job. Every major American Presidential candidate, except one, favors the Nation ID. EVERY CANDIDATE, EXCEPT ONE, FAVORS YOU HAVING A NATIONAL ID.”

Rand Paul’s immigration plan is no different than what the GOP has promoted for decades even under Bush. Rand is just framing it differently. And it is much more tough than Romney’s “self-deportation” non-existent immigration policy. Rand’s plan is much smarter and tougher than the Gang of 8′s plan by giving Congress oversight of border security rather than the DOJ who does nothing now.

The only major difference between Rand’s plan and the GOP establishment plan is that it won’t alienate moderates, Latinos, and minorities with family values, all would vote for Rand instead of Hillary Clinton in 2016.

News Flash to old moss stale Republicans: Adapt or become extinct. We have not been a contender in the past 2 elections. Appealing to moderates and independents is the key to success.

      Immigration Policy:
Finish the barrier along our southern border.
Border Guards, drones, attack dogs, and even alligators (as Obama suggested) if need be, but enforce the Border “NOW”!!!
Then, hire as many “ICE” agents as needed, to arrest all “ILLEGALS”!
Advise companies, they have a short period of time to get “ILLEGALS” off their payroll, and hire “LEGAL” Americans, or face a fine!!
Fine all companies, etc. that knowingly hired “ILLEGALS”, a healthy fine.
Those “ILLEGALS” arrested–confiscate their assets, and “Redistribute Their Wealth”, to send all “ILLEGALS” arrested back to their home country.

Exactly, Rand isn’t considering that we did this once with Reagan and that just incentivised border jumping.Or that we all ready have 8% of the legal work force without jobs as our economy is losing jobs to oversea companies. I understand his compassion he’s just not tempering it with any logic.
We need a revolution and we need to amend the Constitution making it impossible for anyone who enters the country illegally or the offspring they have from becoming a citizen. We also need to make it a treasonist crime when officals refuse to enforce immigration laws. We might also want to look into amending the free of religion by limiting it to religions that don’t practice jihads or allow others to worship freely.

This talk of granting amnesity to illegals always gets me going. All citizens in the USA have to follow the laws put before us or we end up in trouble and sometimes in jail or prison. Now we have people that want to let illegals who have broken the law, to stay here with no consequences or perhaps a small slap on the hand and tell them it is ok that you have broken our laws. Our Federal government is telling ICE to let these illegals go without any action. This is so wrong, why do we have to follow the law and law breaking illegals get a free pass?

We currently have 50 million people on food stamps, and welfare, and other gov hand out programs.

I do not want to hear a dad gum word on immigration, until I hear a politician talk about ending the welfare, and putting these people back to work. Why bring immigrants here to work, then pay millions of lazy people not to work, so they can soak up tax dollars, commit crimes, and breed like rabbits?

If there is work here for immigrants to do, and to pay taxes on, then have the welfare crowd do it.

If it is ok for Wan and Jose to come up from Mexico to pound nails, and paint walls to feed their family, then by all means we can stop paying SSI and unemployment to Billy Ray, Bubba, and Earl over in the trailer park, and they can do the same. When Bubba starts pounding those nails, he will have less time for making meth.

If Sanchez and Javier can pick fruit, mow grass, and pour concrete to raise their kids, then by all means, Tyrone, Cedrick, Demetrius, Jamal, Devonte, Ray Ray, Pookey, Andree, and friends can get out of the projects and do the same. When Tyrone starts busting his hump, he will have to buy some pants that actually fit, and he will have less time for the current 50% of the murders he is doing, less time for making babies with Tamika, Lashonda, and Shominiqua, and less time for armed robberies. When he earns that paycheck, his self esteem will go up, his son will have a father worthy to look up to, and might not be as inclined to want to emulate the rap start that glorifies crime.

Back in the late forties and early fifties, if you were illegal, they gave you the option of becoming an American Citizen and if you refused, they sent you back. But both Republicans and Democrats created this present insanity allowing illegals to come in and be here for such a long time. Now they don’t know what to do. The chickens have come back to roast on both parties for their stupid mistakes. Now the want to unbend what they bent and they cannot do it. They have both screwed our country while they were living the high and mighty life filled with the luxuries of spending our money without a thought of our well being. It was all about them (both parties). Now, they somehow heard us screaming and they see Obama taking this country down…….and NOW they want to fix this……..get back what we had in the 40s and 50s……..but now, it’s impossible. Opinion: In many other matters of state economics, Constitutional rights, privacy and rules I have found common ground with Senitor Randy Paul but this libertarian position on illegal immigrants, he is forgetfull of oath to US Citizens to represent US first for our needs benifit above and before all foreigners! Not to just follow ones own personal view or family history or convenience or for ones or parties gain; it is a slap in the face to all law abiding Citizens all law abiding immigrants of the past and present! Amnesty wrongly justifies Obama’s and democrats actions. Proverbs 17:13 Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house. This is wisdom by encouraging wrong behavior it teaches people it ok and profitable to ignor laws; this as seen over and over by past failures in granting illegal immigrants amnesty; it will invite lawlessness and degrade US.

Unfortunately we all are complicit in this issue since we elect officials who only care about being reelected and have not effectively enforce the immigration laws. So we now have an estimated 11 million people here illegally.

These people are here, how do we deal with them. Can we round them up and send them back to wherever they came from? What is the financial and social implications in trying to do this?

Is it easier to let these people live here? Yep. Do they deserve a path to citizenship? Nope. If we are going to seal the boarders and prevent illegals from coming in, we could offer all the illegals here now green cards with no path to citizenship. They broke the rules and don’t deserve citizenship, however they can work and pay taxes for the services they are using.

Offering amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegals cheapens what it means to be a US citizen. Our citizenship means something that shouldn’t just be given away by our politicians.

There’s nothing new in “a path to citizenship”, so I don’t understand your point.

Doing something new would be to enforce the law. ICE officers say they are not allowed to do their jobs. The problem isn’t that it can’t be done. The problem is the administration keeps the job from being done.

I agree with Patty Henry. If you listen to Rand Paul, he is not saying there are no problems. In his interview with Roger Hedgecock, Roger brought up concerns like the Motor Voter Laws and that in CA illegals can get a driver’s license. When they get the DL they are handed a Voter Registration Card. They are on the honor system-when they state that they are a citizen on the form. Rand Paul agreed. That is a problem. The states handle the elections. They need to get ID and verification laws passed. Rand agreed with Roger that there are other issues that need to be hammered out. I join Glenn Beck in the love fest. I STAND WITH RAND also.

Personally the LAST thing I want to hear from a Republican is amnesty. I have a belly full of ILLEGALS that are changing the landscape of America. Three of my family members were rear ended by them and they ran away from the accident and were never caught. I pay EXTRA on my car insurance for uninsured and even UNDER-INSURED motor vehicle. My state REQUIRES auto insurance but for some reason lots of people don’t have it or are vastly under-insured because the state requirements are so low.
Schools have been affected and my neighborhood has been CHANGED, things end up gone. Swat teams have been across the street from me in full gear, shields and all.
And we are just supposed to grin and bear it and get used to it. My sister had a pitched gun battle/war across the street from her house and a bullet even went thru her window, 35 shots fired they think, 2 dead and 1 to hospital, 7 murders within 3 miles of my home in last 7 years. I had this house built for me and have lived in this home for 25 years, NO problem for the first 18 years and now I have to get used to this mayhem. My home’s value went DOWN 50% and my property taxes went up again. Got to feed the govt machine that hands out more FREE STUFF to get the votes of the loafers of all races, who somehow NEVER found a job they could work at.
I know several families whose parents worked but the kids and a dozen of their grandkids found their way onto the public’s dime. This cannot continue or USA will eat itself alive.

We need to make as many illegal aliens LEGAL asap. They are here and are sapping our funds. They are in our hospitals, schools, and on hand out programs. Imagine 11 million people suddenly paying into the system? Well, maybe that last sentence isn’t a good point to make, 48% don’t pay anything. But Rand Paul is our only chance for the future. Not Rubio, not Chisty, not Cruz. And certainly nobody who ran last time around. And please no body keep your fingers crossed for Palin.

The good news is that Rand Paul will likely never be president. The bad news is that neither will any other Republican, in all likelihood. The reason for this is the demographic shift that has taken place since the immigration act of 1965 took effect in 1968. America was 90 percent white in 1960, and today white people are just under 64 percent. With the the vast majority of minorities voting Democrat it now takes more than 65 percent of the white vote for a Republican to take the white house. In contrast, Reagan won a 49 state landslide in 1984 with 64 percent of the white vote. Republicans have just about put themselves out of business when it comes to national elections and if mass immigration isn’t stopped the whole country will become like California. A flat broke, third world

Hey Conservatives, the problem is your “social(ist) safety net”. You’re not the only humans who want “free stuff”.

It’s not the immigration, it’s the socialism that is waiting for them; the socialism that Conservatives have helped to raise up.

Take the “free stuff” (social safety net) away and you would no longer have an immigration problem.

So, if Conservatives are evil enough to force socialism on the American people, then they get to suffer the unintended consequence of foreigner freeloaders.

Conservatives and other freeloaders are fighting over the loot. That’s what all this is about.

The candidates are being groomed! Rand has obviously sold out. (I love his new perm, by the way.) And Jeb Bush is trying to sneak back into the limelight. Hey Jeb, do you remember Ted Kennedy’s Presidential bid? Let me give you a hint: Mary Jo Kopechne = Terri Schiavo! So Rand is selling out and offering himself as another faux conservative like Mitt Romney did i.e. Mormons are conservative. Romney is Mormon. Therefore Romney must be conservative AND Ron Paul is courageous enough to speak of auditing the Fed and questioning the USA’s foreign policy initiatives. Rand Paul is Ron Paul’s son. Therefore Rand Paul must be ready to SELL OUT and get a new perm and no doubt will soon announce what a good friend of Israel he is. (Just like Mitt Romney.)

Now, is not the time to COMPROMISE with the Dumbocrats, Rand. I am all for giving a TYPE OF AMNESTY to illegal law-abiding people, who have been here over 10 years – give them visas and then 1 year to become a U.S. citizen – GO THRU THE REGULAR PROCESS with no special privileges.

Rand Paul: IT IS NOT FAIR TO ALLOW A FREE PASS TO EVERYONE. It would be like most of the liberals believe: God is not a vengeful God – we are all going to Heaven regardless of whether we are saved or not. WRONG. FALSE. A LIE OF THE LEFT AND THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE.

@PATTY HENRY: No one wants to round them up. How about this:
      1. If you are an illegal alien, you have 30-90 days to SIGNUP for a citizenship process.
      2. If you do, you will be given a special visa that will allow you to submit citizenship papers on the fasttrack (learn our history, constitution, etc.). THEN, YOU MUST TAKE A CITIZENSHIP TEST.
      3. You will be investigated thoroughly first. If you have a record of any 1 felony, or more than 2 misdemeanors, you will be sent home TO YOUR BIRTH COUNTRY WITHIN 30 DAYS.
      4. If you pass all the criteria, you will be sworn in and given a NEW SS NUMBER and be allowed to continue as a U.S. citizen after being sworn in to UPHOLD OUR CONSTITUTION.
      5. If you do not have this special SS number (actually just a new SS and not a defining number), you will be asked to leave the USA within 30 days, otherwise, you will be branded as a CRIMINAL AND FOREIGN ENEMY OF THE USA AND PUT ON A MOST WANTED LIST.

It all seems very simple to me. I do not want to see anyone who is law-abiding AND HAD BEEN LIVING HERE FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS, even tho they are illegal, being rounded up and ousted. BUT, I DO WANT THEM TO WORK FOR THE CITIZENSHIP JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE DOES. That seems fair to me.

I am so grateful to God for being born here, so I can just imagine how these people feel, fleeing from their own country, wanting the freedoms we have. I DO HAVE COMPASSION FOR THEM.

Rickroland, I agree – to a point! the existing laws OUGHT to be enforced – but nobody is going to do it – at least at a Federal level! And any State that tries it faces Federal anger. Paul’s proposals haven’t even been worked our yet and some, are ready to shout his ideas to the curb without seeing their final, worked out, form! At the very least he is proposing very tight Controls on the border and a way to offer legal status – though NOT citizenship – to a number of workers we may actually have jobs for. Now, if these workers are willing to do that work, and US citizens prefer their seemingly unlimited unemployment benefits to working up a sweat in the fields, I say bring in the guest workers – or let the jobs wither away and suffer the consequences of buying more from overseas! Regardless of how many illegals are already here, the main thrust, and the prime point of Paul’s ideas, needs to be stopping any more from just wandering in to see what bennies they can suck from us! Control the border – give visa’s to those already here who are eligible – thus making them legal, employed, and paying taxes, but NOT citizens – and fix the Visa process to allow in only the numbers needed to fill the available job slots! Job done? Bus them home until they are needed again! Better plan, and more chance of it actually working, than any other I have seen!

Believe it or not there is sum and substance to what Ron Paul is saying. Once again border security first and issuing work visa’s to “workers” here, not just any rag tag vagabond. A person with a work visa is not a citizen and there are many hoops to jump through before one becomes one, including learning and speaking English. To become a citizen, one has to get in line as well. Voter I.D. has to be instituted commensurately – for everyone. The Democratic Party be damned. All they are looking for are votes and passing out freebies to secure them. If the Republican Party takes the upper hand and puts some common sense and some teeth into immigration reform, I truly believe many Spanish people will not only go along with the program but we will acquire a good percentage of votes com them as they tend to be more conservative than many people believe. Romney and the Old Guard Republicans shot themselves in the foot(maybe both feet) with both the message and the lack of fortitude to get the right message out and stand behind it. It can be done but the Karl Roves and company need to be sent packing and Ann Coulter can be sent along with him. She has a habit of changing horses in the middle of a stream – certainly made a wrong pick with Christie and Romney both.
We have got to stop the Old Guard for selecting our Presidential candidates for us. We get sacrificed on their politically correct altar every year. Yes, we have politically correct moderates in our camp.

When businesses and individuals are held accountable for hiring them. I love Rand, I really do.

3rd world immigration has already destroyed the United States. More of it, will just further ensure that the total destruction is permanent. Look at California. Look at New York. Look at Deerborn. If you want to look beyond America, look at London. None of them have anything to do with being American, or with being anything 1st world anymore, and they are just a few examples. 3rd world immigration is the reason that Americans, Englishmen, and Europeans are losing complete control of anything that is going on in their countries. A few Western ******* & feminests may be getting some of the things that they want. Woo hoo. Probably too late to do anything.

legal immigration is a good thing. The lower class people in this country are too lazy to do the hard work the immigrants are doing. The reason for all the illegals is because the government caps the number of work visas (even though they are jobs americans wont do).

If you ask what has “destroyed this country” – i would point to DoE, federal reserve, and political system (R versus D).

Howevere, one needs look no further than the cities that I previously stated to see that the truth is unfortunately actually that 3rd world immigration is what has destroyed the country, and the entirety of Western civilization, not illegal immigration. Many times illegal immigrants are 3rd world immigrants, so it is easy for theline to get blurred. This is a fact that has not escaped our enemies and they have capitalized on it.

SOYBOMB315_II & WTFHAPPENETOTHEUSA – I love you guys. I know we are coming from the same place, so please don’t get me wrong here. Just look into the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. Before that, since the inception of our beautiful country, only immigrants from Northern & w]Western European countries were allowed to come to our country or the numbers were greatly skewed, by law, in their direction. After that, everyone was welcome. This was a change in the definition of who was legal. These 3rd world immigrants may be great to play soccer against, but they do not have the same stuff as does Western man with regard to being able to build and maintain society or relate to one another like we have always taken for granted. It is why their 3rd world countries always have been and still are 3rd world countries and our 1st world countries are and always have been 1st world countries. Now that you have filled them with 3rd world people, they cannot continue to be 1st world countries. There is just a basic difference in the people. I didn’t design in this way. God did, I just observe it in awe. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Opinion: What is not brought up is the gross bias in rules against white European immigration; How much they want to keep this out of general public view by distorted smearing and nonReporting. But what has been done on the hold on all but criminal illegal immigrate deportations? If they now check for illegal status for work why are not illegals leaving for lack of work if this system is working, doubtful? But it seems leftist or liberals do not want our US immigration Laws rightly changed to unbiased equally consider Europeans and rightly prefer people coming here to stay and not criminals or just to free load grab money, bring in drugs then go or send dollars back home. How could such repeated illegal immigrants amnesty or libertarian position for open borders, also nafta, liberal, leftist world gvnm view, not cause voting imbalance in favor of foreign interest!? its not 1700s, much of easy travel motives are not lifetime move but political or temporal greed. The people to the south were and are part of the new-Lands of americas they had and have their land and chance to make their countries as the wish, if they feel it wrong change their own land, don’t want their loser ideas here. Forcing a White country to accept a never ending stream of non-White people and then “assimilate” them, ie. intermarry is geNOcide, plain and simple.

Say no to White GeNOcide, ie. international crime.

Firsttube11100 – You are exactly right about assimilation. I’d like to share a story. My daughter and I were there in front of the Capital House where Jan Brewer signed SB1070. About 25 of us supporters were kept separate from hundreds of angry, mostly Mexican protesters by police tape and the bodies of police officers. I was told to go back to Europe when my family line goes back almost 200 years. One young woman tried her best to get my daughter to cross over the line so she could kick my daughters ass. We were threatened repeatedly for expressing our 1st amendment rights. Threatened to the point that when it came time to leave we had to b taken to our cars in an unmarked police van. These people have no idea what free speech is. No respect of our countries laws. They have no intension of assimilating. They are here to regain what they have now been taught. That the southwest belongs to them. And when they finally achieve that goal they will be none too nice to us.

Misty…that is so sad. And true that many new Mexicans here do NOT go to church as their elders did, do not have the work ethics that their elders did.
When I was young I lived in El Centro, California, and we really liked the people who came over to work. They were polite and did much hard labor. Their children excelled in school It wasn’t a problem then, perhaps because it was work near their country and they could go back easily? Now they are all over our country, collecting free stuff!!

I respect legalized immigrants for doing the work and wanting to pride of taking the oath to become an American citizen. They are the ones most disrespected in all of this, then comes the American taxpayer, and then the typical anchor baby who didn’t have a choice about where they were born. The money stolen by illegal immigrants is well into the billions easy. That money could go back where it belongs… the elderly, American veteran care, and border protection. Rand is just about to give up on an issue that has been out of control for such a long time. How can we deport 12+ million illegal, I’m thinking the number is closer to 18-20 million, but amnesty is not the answer. I live in South Texas. It will not work. They will keep coming and our money should not be funneled toward an illegal immigrant rather than to a Korean war veteran who will have worse care than a new momma who popped a kid out on our soil. She’ll get a basket full of freebies (diapers, formula, blankets, pacifiers, vouchers, and even a car seat for the baby) plus ongoing care with a social worker to help get more freebies- WIC,food stamps, phone, and housing. She can have this help offered at several locations at her convenience. While the Korean/Gulf War/Iraq/Afghanistan war vet might get seen by the same doctor and maybe have their needs met. Rand, you cannot worry about getting the vote if the illegal immigrant. Get the vote of the American citizen and new American citizen.

I wouldn’t worry to much about that “line” soy. It wont be very long in a few years anyway.

First, there is a good reason for legal, controlled immigration. This is why no other country in the world has open borders like we do. The key to our country, the great melting pot, is assimilation. It’s what made this country the greatest in the world. Open borders will eventually destroy any country.

Whatever they do I would bet anything that it will still be easier for Latino’s to come here illegally.
A giant slush fund, a new voting block, and cheap labor and probably a few more reasons. If they were interested in preventing illegal immigration all along you would enforce at the employer level and they would stop coming. They are not interested, never was, never will. They just lie. Always have about this issue. And GOP et al misrepresents the issue. Oh yea, we are going to round up 25 million illegals, sure we are. The left misrepresents as well. They just pretend there is no such thing as illegal immigration. A child can see that neither side is interested in doing whats right for this country.

If that is successful, then we can do something about helping the people that snuck in.

Rush had the best idea: Let them become citizens, but no voting rights for 25 years. (Even 10 or 15 would be good.)

Bring this to the floor and watch the Dems drop the push. It’s all about getting more Dem votes. 70% of Hispanics vote Democratic.

If employers would stop hiring them illegally they’d leave and others would stop crossing the border. Mexicans cross the border to get jobs. And there are plenty of employers who are willing to hire them because they can pay well below minimum wage, don’t have to carry worker’s comp, know that if they get injured they won’t try to get compensation and know that know matter how they are treated, they won’t and can’t legally address the issue.

There are a whole lot of businesses that know how much extra money they make by employing, illegally, Mexicans who cross the border rather than Americans (as if there were Americans willing to do many of the jobs Mexicans willingly do).

No, Mexicans aren’t crossing the border for “free stuff.” They come to make money. Sorry, building a big 2000 mile fence guarded by jackbooted government agents at the cost of billions and billions of dollars isn’t the answer. It’s kind of stupid really. You want Mexicans to stop crossing the border? Go after the people who employee them.

Folks, Mexicans cross the border to get jobs and make money. You don’t want them here? Then go after the employers who are happy to pay them rather than pay wages Americans demand and to pay for worker’s comp insurance. Remove the incentive and they’ll stop coming.

You know it’s funny. In my city, the panhandlers are white. The people outside Home Depot looking for work are Mexican.

@Meteor – I must address your “their not here for the free stuff”… I must disagree and I shall tell you why. I lived in Phoenix Az for 25 years. As I was a waitress I have worked with many illegal immigrants. And I do know for a fact that many of the illegals were indeed collecting food stamps and cash assistance and subsidized child care. I have been there when a translator had explain to my boss why the person she was translating for needed a day off to go to welfare dept. Many of the wives don’t work and some even come in to see their spouse and along with their kids are wearing gold and clothes that I can’t afford to buy. In the last few years my American daughter who is a single mom, has such a hard time at the welfare office. Which is filled with those who do not speak any English. So while you have the right to your opinions, I am here to testify.. Yes they are coming to our country and getting all kinds of free stuff. One more example. I went to a parent teacher conference for my 4rd grade grandson. He was not bringing home spelling tests. I asked why not? I was told that it is more important the kids knew the meaning of the word. This is in a class of 80 – 90% Mexican kids. Free education. You may ask “shouldn’t we educate all who come here?” I ask “should we educate all who come here at the expense of our own kids?”

Where are your statistics to show that no American applied for these jobs and therefore employers were forced to employ the “only people who would do these jobs which were Mexicans”? I do agree with you as far as going after the employers who hire illegals but please don’t tell me that there aren’t Americans who would be willing do the same jobs that Mexicans are hired for. I have seen many Americans mowing lawns, painting house, doing construction work. etc. I agreed with most of your post until you stated that Mexicans do jobs that Americans won’t. You are so wrong on that point. Americans don’t get the job because they are skilled and are expecting to be paid at a higher pay rate. You are correct in blaming the employer but don’t blame it on the American workers. It all goes back to the employer who hires an illegal simply because they are cheap labor.

Meteor, If the whites go over to Home Depot they get knifed. I see our immigration policy as an anti-war policy. If France had our immigration policy in 1939 the German army would have not needed to invade, just roll in and set up shop. Several sites list the costs of illegal immigration @ $330 billion + per year, and we can’t deport 20 million? $ 330 billion each year would rent a lot of Greyhounds. Illegals are 1/3 of our prison inmates. Send them home to. Replace them with employers who hire illegals. Ok, back to the America that has not had a budget for 4.5 years. This will not stop till the EBT cards stop working, that will be the famous SHTF moment. Till then the GOP is through.

@Coupe – you are right. The last REAL meaningful immigration reform we had was under Eisenhower. At the time the illegals in the country were increasing and old Dwight got a law passed that immediately STOPPED ALL federal aid for anyone that could not prove their legal status. No education, assistance, food stamps…NOTHING!! and cracked down on employers who hired illegals.
Within 1 year of the law passing, HALF of the illegals in the nation SELF DEPORTED!! nearly 400K people left. Those that stayed were unable to find work legally or qualify for any type of government ID, job, or assistance.
The rates of illegal immigrants into the country also dried up and practically stopped completely within the next few years.

Over the years, the enforcement of the law became looser and looser and nobody cared during the Korean War years or Vietnam War years and the 70′s were so bad people were just trying to survive. When Reagan came to power and tried to enforce the laws again, he did what even he admitted was one of his worst agreements, better enforcement and removal of services for amnesty of the nearly 3 million illegals that had come over in the previous 30 years.
SHOCKER! Tipp O’Neal and the Dems stabbed him in the back and didn’t even attempt to get enforcement back to Eisenhower levels.
Now 30 years after Reagan..we have 12 million illegals and a Socialist in the WH that won’t do a damn thing but amnesty…

Rand Totally misses the point that while the current policy enforcement may constitute de facto amnesty, it is not codified into law, and therefore can change with new leader.

His immigration agenda is one of legal, economic, and political suicide for this nation. Legally it sends the message that there are no reason to obey the law, and only encourage more illegal immigration. Economically, it will formally add hundreds of billions of dollars of unfunded demands on the Social Security and Medicare programs. Politically, it will only produce more Democrat voters, which will virtually guarantee a full socialist form of government will occur, which Rand supposedly is against.

It is a formula for disaster!

I like the idea of green cards for illegal aliens… but no line for citizenship. If they came illegally or overstayed their visa, there should be consequences. Being allowed to stay and work is one thing, but not being eligible to apply for citizenship after committing a felony seems reasonable. An exception for children who did not choose to break the law, but were brought by their parents would also be reasonable.

RONPAULORNOONE, Reagan did not offer amnesty. He did get snookered into voting on the so called one time amnesty bill by a congress that was completely dominated by the Democrats. I remember blowing my top when he did that. I know that he had to do a lot of give and take with the Dems to get many of the things that he wanted, but he even later admitted it was something that he should not have done, much like the times he signed the bills that raised taxes.

We need people to work the farms. White people want to OWN the farm and hire Mexican migrants to do the hard labor for nothing. Here’s the truth. They come here for a sub standard wage and NO legal protection. They can be abused but take it because it’s far better here than in Mexico. Why do they get the FREEBIES? Big AGRA needs CHEAP labor & they make sure government provides the freebies to keep their conglomerate farms going.. It’s the truth I see it every day. I live in Florida and it’s strawberry season and who do you think is harvesting and packing them? It ain’t whitey..

exactly. Remember, we used to have citizens who were migrant farm workers. Either they became wealthy enough to move up or the government set minimum wages which made their job go to immigrants. Either way, americans are not interesting in those jobs. I love the people who say no immigration – as if the crops will harvest themselves

Growing up in the midwest, in Kentucky, it was kids my age that did the farm work. Putting up hay, growing all facets of tobacco, even picking peppers. There were NO illegals around in the 70′s to do that work.
They only, finally migrated here in the 90′s, which was about the same time kids didn’t want to do farm work anymore. I don’t know where those kids got their money, perhaps from parents that should have known better. It seems to have started when Clinton was in office.

      @ Soy

Do you have an answer for Anonymous?

I have detasselled corn, bailed hay & laid irrigation pipe. I have not had to hoe a bean field. I have relatives that have and the last time I have seen it done was in the early 1980s.

Americans can do these jobs & have done these jobs. Many jobs can be mechanized such as getting rid of weeds, detasselling or picking tomatoes.

A solution is not necessarily we need to import farm workers forever & anon. Keep importing people & it will be as crowded as China. Have you been there? I am guessing you have not. How about Europe?

People can pay more for some produce, they can grow more in gardens. It will provide more opportunities for farmers markets. It will raise wages some for native farm workers.

Of course we can just keep wages low to make agribusiness happy. Spend less on produce so we can spend more on this years i-phone, and rinse & repeat with amnesty 4, 5, 6, …

so long as we have entitlement state, americans will not do the work you described. If we didnt have entitlment system, americans would be willing to do hard work

So if we are going to have entitlement system, immigrants is the only way our food will be harvested

By the way, “racist” is hate speech used to demoralize a White person.

If Amnesty becomes law then its end game for the Republicans as over 70% of the new citizens will turn to the Democrats.

I agree it is a gamble to some extent, but if Rand and Rubio were able to generate enough influence on this issue, can you imagine their influence on issues like economic policy, foreign policy, government growth, regulations, and tax reform?

The objective is the restoration of America right? I would argue that the America many think they’re protecting by opposing massive immigration reform is, and will remain, a mere shadow of what our country has the potential to be.

I really haven’t believed the argument that a lot of the Illegals are “closet conservatives” who only support the democrats because they think they are liked. Where exactly are most of the surviving communist countries? Mexicans in particular are pretty big on the socialism bandwagon.

Personally, if we had done what we were supposed to do with the last round of amnesty, we may have been able to solve the problem. The way it looks now, Conservatives have no choice, commit suicide, or die slowly (possibly stalling for enough time to let the Liberal system destroy itself).

      SNOWLEOPARD, misguided on two points.
      1. It depends on what kind of amnesty. We have a major problem with illegals and still have not even come close to securing our borders. Borders absolutely must be secured. First. Those already here? Must devise a plan of simulation, but with enough hoops for them to jump through to become integrated, including getting to the back of the line, making sure they speak and read English and the immigrants and all Americans have voter I.D.’s, it could solve several problems at once. Again if conservatives take the lead resolving these problems, I believe we can win over those of Spanish decent.
      2. Last sentence would turn around your 70% figure and probably reduce that to below 50%. We can not just complain and sit on our hands, but take some solid, sound reasoning plans and put them into action. Otherwise 2016 will be here and we will still be in the same boat – sinking.

Being a Conservative myself I have this to say. “Follow the Money” Coulter, Limbaugh and other so called conservative talk radio pundits. They are no only in it for the money but their aim is to get more people to listen since corporate advertising dollars flow to larger radio audiences.

I remember Limbaugh being on late night TV one night.
