Black Conservatives, Ben Carson Appear on Sean Hannity to Discuss Racism on the Left

Doctor Benjamin Carson, the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, says he wasn’t subjected to “name-calling” because of his conservative views before respectfully offering an alternative to President Obama’s health care plan at the National Prayer Breakfast.  Now, he is regularly called such vile words, they can’t be repeated on air.

This is not uncommon, according to a group of outspoken black conservatives who appeared as guests with Sean Hannity on Fox News Monday night.

“It’s about power and control,” radio host David Webb said.  The left wants allies of “convenience,” and “victims” over whom they have near total power. “This is not limited to blacks,” he added, “but it’s even more felt in a community that they feel ownership of.”  And if you no longer need the left, “you threaten their existence.”

This is why they lash out so strongly against anyone who doesn’t march in “lock-step,” Dr. Carson said.

“I represent something that they just can’t quite get their heads around,” he explained. “How can you be black and not march lock-step behind the ‘leaders?’  How can you actually think for yourself?  And how can you actually have some ideals that actually make sense, that don’t agree with their leaders?”

“We need to reach a point in this country where we can have reasoned discussions without getting into corners and tossing hand grenades at each other,” he continued. “We can never make it if we continue do that. People have got to rise above that and not allow themselves to be manipulated.”

There was also a discussion of specific tactics used to delegitimize and ridicule black conservatives, forcing them either into silence or conformity.

Jason Riley of the Wall Street Journal explained:

There’s a need on the left to almost psycho-analyze black conservatives, put ‘em on the couch.  In other words, Justice Scalia’s views on affirmative action are simply wrong, but Clarence Thomas is a self-hating, self-loathing traitor to his race. There’s a double standard there.  And I think the reason you have that is… if you can psycho-analyze someone, de-legitimize them, you don’t have to take on their ideas….that’s what the left tries to do to black conservatives.

Dr. Carson said, referencing the book Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky: “Of course, there is an old trick that you ostracize, you ridicule, you isolate, and you keep repeating…”

“I’m not sure it’s going to work quite frankly because I don’t plan on going anywhere,” he stated.
