A baseball bat-wielding Chicago shop owner fought back against two robbers who entered his store with intent to rob his store on Tuesday. The owner, a victim of past burglaries, didn’t back down even though one of the robbers was armed.
The store’s surveillance cameras captured the shop owner’s brave stand:

One of the robbers may have been armed with a gun, however, it proved to be no match for 62-year-old Luis Quizphe and his brother-in-law, Luis Aucaquizhpi.
“One of the guys, he said, ‘Give me the money or you are dead,’ and after that I was close to him and I tried to hit him with the bat, and the other guy he started shooting,” Aucaquizhpi recalled.
It was Quizphe who then fended off the armed robber with his own bat. Bullets were fired throughout the ordeal.
When the robbers tried to flee, they discovered that customers need to be buzzed in and out of the store — so the crooks found themselves locked in.
“Aucaquizhpi is seen in the video tossing a stool at the gunman and later chasing him with a fire extinguisher after the two robbers buzzed themselves out of the shop,” NBC Chicago notes.
Quizphe was reportedly shot in the leg during the robbery attempt but was listed in good condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital on Wednesday. Ironically, the armed man apparently also shot his accomplice in the failed attempt to rob the store. Police say 10 shell casings were found on the floor of the shop.
“Police said no arrests had been made in the case as of Wednesday afternoon. After getting away, the men, whom Aucaquizhpi described only as being black men, ran north on Western Avenue and then west on Belden Avenue before getting into a gray car,” NBC Chicago reports.
