Wash. Post: ‘In Retrospect, We Should Have Sent a Reporter Sooner’ to Cover Gosnell

The Washington Post is acknowledging they should have decided to cover the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell “sooner.”

Post executive editor Martin Baron told the newspaper’s Erik Wemple, who writes a media blog:

We believe the story is deserving of coverage by our own staff, and we intend to send a reporter for the resumption of the trial next week. In retrospect, we should have sent a reporter sooner.

Gosnell, 72, is on trial in the deaths of a patient and seven babies allegedly born alive at his abortion clinic in West Philadelphia. Despite gruesome testimony in the case, including witnesses who described “snipping” the spines of babies, the trial has received a paucity of national media coverage.
