After becoming a father and reevaluating what’s really important in life, Chris Holmes decided to quit his 9-to-5 job as a Border Agency official at London’s Stansted Airport so he could pursue his dream job running his own cake business. He tendered his resignation on his 31st birthday.

Known to the public as “Mr. Cake,” Holmes decided to resign in spectacular fashion by submitting his resignation letter written on an actual cake.

“Today is my 31st birthday, and having recently become a father I now realize how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me, and other people, happy,” he wrote on the cake.

He went on:

“For that reason I hereby give notice of my resignation in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family and to my cake businesses which has grown steadily over the past few years.

I wish the organisation and my colleagues the best for the future and I remind you that if you enjoy this cake, you can order more at www.mrcake.co.uk.”

Holmes told a local news station that he wanted to leave his former employer a memento to remember him by, and given that he runs a cake company, that seemed like the best plan.

His brother later tweeted out a photo of the resignation cake that has since gone viral. So, in addition to making quite an impressive exit from his 9-to-5 job, it also looks like he will get a substantial amount of free advertising for his Mr. Cake business.
