The horrific saga that is the Dr. Kermit Gosnell trial continues, with testimony on Wednesday and Thursday offering up additional allegations that could send shivers down the spines of even the bravest of Blaze readers.

Among the claims: Patient files were allegedly stained with blood, women would purportedly contract sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) after clinic procedures and numerous babies reportedly breathed, squirmed and screeched before being murdered.

On Wednesday, during court proceedings, two individuals testified — a former patient and a woman who worked for Gosnell at the Women’s Medical Society.

The first witness, Mary Kincade, was a patient who spent nearly a decade going to the office. While she had never sought an abortion there, she regularly saw Eileen O’Neill, one of the “doctors” (who apparently wasn’t actually registered to practice in the state of Pennsylvania). According to LifeNews.com, Kincade said she never saw Gosnell at the clinic when she visited for yearly well-woman check-ups.

Aside from the fact that she believed O’Neill was a doctor the entire time (something that was untrue), another charge is that records of her co-payments were purportedly not properly kept; only one co-payment receipt was in her file, with additional ones left undocumented.

This, of couse, is more benign when compared to the other charges that came from Latosha Lewis, a former medical assistant.

Lewis, who was arrested on drug charges relating to events at the clinic, worked for Gosnell for around 10 years. She previously pled guilty to running a pill mill and is awaiting sentencing. The 31-year-old testified that, in 2007, she overdosed a woman and became worried that she would not emerge from anesthesia, LifeNews.com reports.

So, she was inevitably reassigned to work at the clinic’s front desk. But here’s where the alleged details become even more troubling. The pro-life outlet explains:

Lewis indicated that Gosnell’s equipment was outdated and never inspected, and that he often reused disposable curettes, which is the sharp-ended tube that enters the womb in abortion procedures and applies suction for the removal of the pre-born baby and other tissues and fluids.

Lewis testified that the curettes were washed, dried and placed in an antiseptic solution, then reused. The curettes are meant to be disposable and for single use only. She indicated that she noticed that women who had abortions using the reused curettes began returning to the clinic suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.

Earlier testimony indicated that plastic curettes are more porous than metal surgical instruments and simply cannot be adequately cleaned for reuse.

The News Journal adds additional horrifying details, including blood-stained (and allegedly odorous) medical files that were seized from the Women’s Medical Society. Aside from the bodily fluids that were apparently present on these files, there’s another oddity worth mentioning.

Gosnell allegedly wrote “24.5 weeks” in some patient records, regardless of the age of the unborn baby viewed on ultrasounds, the News Journal reports. This is odd, considering that the state caps abortions at 24 weeks.

For a recap of the other allegations that have come out during past testimonies, consider an article published on Wednesday by the Washington Post:

One former employee, Steven Massof, previously testified that he had seen scores of babies born alive who had their necks “snipped” by Gosnell to ensure their demise. Massof, who said he aided with abortions, said that during busy stretches, women given labor-inducing drugs would give birth so regularly that “it would rain fetuses.”

Another former employee, Lynda Williams, previously told the court that some women, heavily dosed on Cytotec and other drugs, aborted spontaneously in the clinic waiting room.

Last week, a woman named Ashley Baldwin testified about having an internship at Gosnell’s clinic as a 15-year-old high school sophomore interested in medicine. She began by answering phones and doing other administrative tasks and eventually assisted him in performing abortions. She told jurors she recalled seeing various babies squirming, breathing and in one instance “screeching” after late-term abortions.

On Thursday, Kareema Cross, 28, yet another former employee, testified that he saw at least 10 babies breathe before they were murdered. She has already plead guilty to administering drugs at the clinic and is hoping for probation after cooperating with prosecutors.

“I thought they were breathing. He would say they’re not really breathing,” Cross said, according to the Associated Press.

She apparently worked at the clinic from 2005 until 2009, but was so disturbed by its practices that she took pictures and called authorities and gave a relative’s name instead of her own. In addition to her claims that babies were breathing, she also saw three move, including one that was born in a toilet, the AP reports. A fourth purportedly let out a “soft whine.” Here’s more:

She admitted that she studied only to be a medical assistant, but performed ultrasounds, gave anesthesia drugs and helped perform abortions.

She said she routinely saw Gosnell abort babies who were past the state’s 24-week abortion limit. She said staff left late-term patients alone on the second floor after they’d been given painkillers and potent drugs to induce labor, and said some even stayed overnight unattended in a makeshift bedroom.

She said Gosnell and others snipped the backs of the babies’ necks after they were born, and sometimes removed the brain through the opening. And she described the clinic as filthy and the equipment as outdated.

Gosnell could face the death penalty if he’s convicted. The prosecution rested today, with the defense portion of the trial resuming on Monday.
