Rep. Paul Ryan declared today that IRS agents singling out conservatives is “arrogance of power, abuse of power to the nth degree, and we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”

“People have no trust that their government is being impartial,” he stated on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.

The 2012 GOP vice presidential candidate scoffed at the idea that “some bureaucratic snafu” led to the IRS scandal, saying “that’s been disproven.”

Rather he said that there’s now proof that the IRS has targeted organizations over political (and perhaps even religious) beliefs, and there’s also  “credible allegations that donors to these groups were targeted, we know that the IRS leaked private confidential information to the public which served political purposes.”

But Ryan saved his most scathing remarks for the appointment of Sarah Hall Ingram, former head of the IRS tax exempt division, to lead the implementation of Obamacare: “This is rotten to the core,” he stated.

“This is arrogance. This is big government cronyism,” Ryan added. “And this is not what hard-working taxpayers deserve. People deserve a government they can trust, that’s honest, that’s impartial, equality before the law, and that is not what we’re getting here.”

On Benghazi, Ryan said he believes the Obama administration at the minimum was “misleading” from the outset yet must still be fully investigated.

“What is the truth? And why was the truth intentionally distorted?” he asked.

To that end the Wisconsin congressman said “now we’re seeing big government in practice. Now we’re seeing the arrogance, we’re seeing the cronyism in practice in this second term. And that is even uglier than big government in theory…not a pretty picture.”
