Jake Tapper Warns Obama Supporters on Precedent WH Is Setting With Scandals

(CNN)

CNN’s Jake Tapper on Wednesday came to the defense of Fox News reporter James Rosen, urging President Barack Obama’s loyal supporters to consider the precedent the administration’s actions set for the future when perhaps “it’s not your guy in the White House.”

As previously reported by TheBlaze, the U.S. Justice Department labeled Rosen a “co-conspirator” for soliciting classified information from a State Department official for a story on North Korea’s nuclear program. It was later revealed that the DOJ also obtained the phone records of Rosen’s parents and at least five other Fox News phone lines.

Tapper also pointed out that the FBI obtained a warrant to search Rosen’s email in 2010 to find the source of a leak.

“Keep in mind, there is no allegation that Mr. Rosen bribed, threatened or coerced anyone to get the information,” Tapper said. “Which is what journalists do. We try to get information, especially information the government doesn’t want us to share with you.”

Tapper noted an opinion piece in the New York Times that accused the Obama administration of showing a “heavy tilt toward secrecy and insufficient concern about a free press.”

“Now I’m a journalist. Obviously I have a bias here,” Tapper added. “But even if you side with this president over those of us in the media who challenge him and his administration, it is important to remember the precedent these actions set going forward, perhaps when it’s not your guy in the White House.”
