Believe It or Not, This Picture of a Pitch-Black Beijing Was Taken During the Middle of the Day

When those in Beijing, China, looked out the window at noon Tuesday they might have thought it was time to start heading to bed. The combination of unhealthy levels of smog and weather conditions in the city made lunch time look more like dinner time.

Mark MacKinnon, senior international correspondent Canada’s Globe and Mail, described the scene on Twitter as #smogmeetstorm.

Pollution has long been a problem in China. So much so, that earlier this year TheBlaze reported an entrepreneur began selling fresh air in a can. For all of June thus far, Beijing Air has listed air quality levels as unhealthy or very unhealthy.
