First it was Equality House, a rainbow-colored, pro-same-sex marriage group that intentionally moved right across the street from the anti-gay congregation. And now, it’s a five-year-old girl who is taking the Westboro Baptist Church to task.

The little girl’s campaign to raise money through a lemonade sale instantly went viral over the weekend. Following all of the attention Jayden Sink got for her efforts to promote peace, the virulent church responded — and its members weren’t happy.

Jayden took her efforts to Westboro’s stomping ground on Saturday, working with her father, Jon Sink, to sell lemonade outside of Equality House. The event, as the Huffington Post notes, was waged in an effort to promote anti-bullying efforts and “peace”:

Jayden, who is from Kansas City, decided to set up her stand at the Equality House after her parents explained to her the significance of its construct. After being told that the church across the street had a message of hate, she set a goal of raising money to go towards a message of love and peace.

So she painted a banner for the event reading, “Pink Lemonade for Peace: $1 Suggested Donation.” She put the stand in the grass and waited. But the waiting didn’t take long. Supporters came in by the droves and $1 turned into hundreds of dollars.

Naturally, Westboro didn’t take too kindly to the little girl’s decision. Its members — known for protesting soldiers funerals and condemning various cohorts (including gays) to hell — reportedly shouted expletives and attempted to stop the lemonade event from unfolding. But Jayden was wasn’t dissuaded.

Also, in response to the event, HuffPo claims that Westboro decided to change its marquee outside the church. As of Monday, it read, “F**S & ENABLERS ALL BURN IN HELL LEMONADE WON’T COOL ANY TONGUES.”

So, there you have it. While the five-year-old received quite a shocking response to her lemonade efforts, she’s laughing all the way to the bank. In addition to the hundreds that Jayden raised on Saturday, an online effort launched in her name has brought in more than $17,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.
