Lone Survivor Marcus Luttrells Uniform From Afghanistan Attack

It’s difficult to even imagine the firefight in Afghanistan that led to one of the largest single-day loss of life in Navy SEAL history, but on Glenn Beck’s radio program Thursday viewers were among the first to see the battle in a completely different light.

Retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell was the only American to survive the ambush and wrote about his experience in the bestselling work “The Lone Survivor.”  But even if you think you know what happened, when you see what remains of Luttrell’s clothes from that day, you’ll be shocked.

Discovered by Afghans two years later, Luttrell said all the blood has been washed from his uniform and the pants were partially stitched back together, but Beck’s co-host Pat Gray still described them as “torn to shreds.”

Beck said there was an unpleasant smell lingering on the kit and Lutrell said simply: “Smells like death.”

After Luttrell’s three teammates and the 16 men sent to rescue them were killed, a badly wounded Luttrell walked and crawled seven miles to avoid capture, staying with sympathetic Afghan villagers until American forces could get to him.

He has lent the uniform to Glenn Beck for an event at Beck’s upcoming Man in the Moon event in Salt Lake City, and attendees will be able to see it if they visit the museum set up just for Man in the Moon.

Lutrell says it’s important that their story is shared with the public.  It’s for that reason that he will soon set out on a Patriot Tour across the United States.

The tour was originally an idea with one of the greatest snipers in history, Chris Kyle, but was put on hold after Kyle’s tragic death in February.

Now, Lutrell says, he’s going to do the tour for Kyle instead of with him.
