The deputy of radical Islamic cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi is claiming to have met with Obama administration officials at the White House earlier this month, according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah posted a purported picture of the meeting online, though the White House visitor’s log has no record of anyone by his name at present.

Nevertheless, bin Bayyah’s website reads:

Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah visited the White House where he met with senior advisers and aides to President Obama and called for the protection of the Syrian people and the Muslim minority in Myanmar.

The distinguished scholar Professor Abdullah bin Bayyah, President of the Global Center for Renewal and Guidance and Vice President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, visited the White House where he met with Ms. Gayle Smith, a senior aide to President Barack Obama, and Mr. Rashad Hussain, U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. He also met with a number of experts including the director of public relations in the White House and representatives from seven government agencies.

Bayyah acts as the number two to Qaradawi, one of the most well-known Sunni clerics in both the Islamic world and the west, at the International Union of Muslim Scholars.  An estimated 60 million people worldwide have tuned into Qaradawi’s weekly “Shariah and Life” show on Al Jazeera, and he has been described as “the voice of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.”

Qaradawi has also spoken favorably of the Holocaust, and supported the killing of U.S. soldiers overseas.

TheBlaze’s national security advisor Buck Sexton, who just returned from a “fact-finding” mission in the Middle East, weighed in on the issue on TheBlaze TV on Wednesday.

“They think that they can reach out to radicals,” Sexton said, noting that the administration has a history of meeting with (and hiring) radicals of various ideologies.

“The Obama administration doesn’t necessarily view them as problems, [but] people who have a different point of view.”

He concluded with an overview of how the “Arab Spring” has worked out in Qaradawi’s Egyptian homeland, with a warning on what to watch for this weekend.
