Bill Maher said Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump all are more racist than Paula Deen, but the reason Deen got in trouble is because she used the n-word.
On his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday, the comedian quoted Scalia saying “whenever a society adopts racial entitlements, it is very difficult to get out of them through the normal political processes.” Scalia made the statement in February during Supreme Court oral arguments in the Voting Rights Act case Shelby County v. Holder.
“Just the fact that he talks about black people voting as an entitlement, that is so much more racist than anything Paula Deen ever said,” Maher said.
Maher also defended the embattled chef last week when she was dropped by the Food Network after admitting she had used the n-word, arguing, “it’s a wrong word, she’s wrong to use it, but do we always have to make people go away?”
“We have replaced having a conversation about race with ‘oh, liberals feel good about themselves if they make the bad person go away,’” Maher said Friday. “Who’s the bad person? The one we caught saying that one word. Donald Trump is a worse racist but he gets to keep his show because he never said the word. Sarah Palin is a worse racist, she said Obama was shucking and jiving his way to victory. Newt Gingrich said he was the food stamp president. This is real racism.”
