Glenn Beck announced on his weekday radio program Tuesday that he will be donating $50,000 to the families of the nineteen firefighters killed over the weekend in Arizona.

Phoenix-based KFYI radio host Mike Broomhead joined Beck on the program, having written to him about the 100 Club of Arizona, the charitable organization through which Beck intends to donate, the night before.

Broomhead described the 100 Club on radio as a “phenomenal,” privately-funded organization comprised mainly of the families of first responders.

“Within 24 hours to 48 hours, they bring a $15,000 check as a gift [to each of the families],” he explained.  “There’s no strings attached…and they hand that family a $15,000 check and say, ‘This is a gift just to get you through…so you can pay your bills and you can grieve.’”

The 100 Club seeks permission through a liaison before bringing the check.  If the family welcomes their efforts, they also let them know they are an “organization of survivors of first responders” and will do all they can to help the families on a personal level, as well.

The organization recently told Broomhead they’ve never written nineteen $15,000 checks in a year.  Now, they’ve written nineteen in a day.

Beck told Broomhead: “I’m going to write the 100 Club of Arizona, but I’d like you to present it.  I’m going to write them a check for $50,000.  And then I would encourage everyone to either go to MercuryOne.org and donate through Mercury One, or through the Hundred Club of Arizona.”

“Help these families out,” Beck encouraged.  “As well all know, firefighters do not make very  much money.  And we want to start with $50,000 and replenish some of their deficit to take care of them, to make sure that they are taking care of the people.”
