Ted Nugent for president?
Sounds crazy, but it appears the “Motor City Madman” is actually mulling a 2016 presidential bid.
“Hi, I’m Ted Nugent. I have nine children from seven women, and I’m running for president,” Nugent said in a recent profile by for the Washington Post Magazine, musing over possible campaign slogans.
“Yeah, I’m thinking about it,” he added.
“Nugent can deliver an improv rant on any political prompt, rhetorical torrents packed with stats, metaphor, profanity and an inextinguishable righteousness that has drowned out opponents from Piers Morgan to Roseanne Barr,” the Post profile continues.
“There are no opinions, only his truth.
“He’s a born campaigner, indefatigable on the road and used to hopscotching the country,” the profile adds.
Unsurprisingly, a few Republican political consultants are unimpressed with the idea of Ted Nugent — Mr. Cat Scratch Fever himself — launching a campaign in 2016.
“All the things he gets a pass on now, he wouldn’t get away with as a candidate,” said GOP political consultant Ralph Reed. “Let’s face it, besting Piers Morgan is a fairly low bar. Nothing against Piers, but that’s not exactly Oxford debate.”
Democrat consultants, on the other hand, would be happy to see Nugent try. But in a backhanded way.
“It would be a very good thing for the Democrats,” said Democratic consultant Paul Begala. “How many people would look at a 60-year-old man with long hair and a loincloth screaming the C-word about Hillary Clinton and say, ‘I wanna be like him?’”
A longtime supporter of Second Amendment rights, Nugent’s political leanings have been anything but ambiguous. He is a very loud and very proud conservative. So perhaps it was only a matter of time before he considered running for public office.
While the consideration may turn into nothing, can you imagine the primary debates? Television gold.
