Take a close look at former Florida State offensive lineman Menelik Watson’s ACC championship ring that he received on Wednesday. Notice anything odd?
Did you catch it?
Let’s give you a close-up:
That’s right, Watson’s ACC championship ring — a picture of which he tweeted out on Wednesday — actually crowns him champion of the rival SEC conference.
“I couldn’t believe it when I opened up the package,” Watson told ESPN. “I feel privileged, and I feel slighted at the same time, but hey, I’m one in a million. I guess the ring guy was making too many and either fell asleep at the machine or he must be an SEC fan. Somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.”
That’s not to say the ring isn’t beautiful: “It’s really nice. It just says SEC on it.”
And apparently, it’s a problem that’s contained.
“The other ones they’ve looked at are right,” FSU spokesman Elliott Finebloom told the network. “It’s 100-something rings. They don’t go through and open every box and inspect them. They assume that if the ones they’ve given out are right, they’re all going to be right. Every other one that’s been given out so far is correct. … There’s no report of anybody else’s being wrong.”
Watson was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of this year’s draft. No word on when he’ll be getting a new ring, but he told the Orland Sentinel he really wants one.
