There’s always that moment in nature documentaries when predator finally captures prey and, although at times heartbreaking, you have to realize it’s the way of the wild. But sometimes there’s the tense moments of chase that ends with the prey luckily getting away.

Such was the case for an Impala being pursued by a cheetah. Although the Impala couldn’t outrun the cheetah, it could find a good place to hide — right inside a tourist SUV.

The long-legged animal jumped right through the vehicle’s window, while one of the passengers can be seen holding a camera as he hung outside the other window on the opposite side.

“It’s in the car. It’s in the car,” a woman in another vehicle filming the scene in South Africa’s Kruger National Park can be heard saying.

The passengers of the vehicle where the impala sought refuge didn’t let it stick around for long, opening the door to free it a few seconds afterward. The impala ran toward the opposite side of the road and into the brush, leaving the cheetahs without a meal.

Watch the dramatic escape footage:

“We started freaking out going crazy. We couldn’t believe it – we were absolutely dumbstruck,” Samantha Pittendrigh who filmed the incident said, according to Barcroft Media. ”It really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and we managed to be in the right place at the right time.”
