Lucy Eades is a blogger who doesn’t hide her pro-breastfeeding point of view. Eades recently was confronted not once but twice by an employee at a recreation center in Texas for feeding her baby in public without a cover.

The second time though she was ready to capture it on camera and school the employee in the law.

In the video filmed by Eades’ husband, the mother of five debates with the employee from the Burleson Recreation Center who insists she has permission from the city to require Eades to cover up while breastfeeding.

Eades says she is misinformed and states “it is literally that state law” that she has the right to nurse in public.

The employee then explains that it’s not just Eades.

“I can tell anyone [who walks] in through the door that’s wearing a sports bra or wearing a bathing suit top that you need to put on…,” the employee said, being interrupted by Eades who says people in some bathing suit tops show more cleavage than she does while breastfeeding.

“You are not allowed in this lobby like that,” the employee continues. “Absolutely not.”

That’s when Eades’ husband’s voice interjects saying “this is going to be fun.” He seems to know what’s coming next.

Yep, Eades says she’s now going to hold a nurse in.

“It is state law that I can nurse my child with or without…I know my rights,” Eades said, as her husband at this point has had enough and says that the employee needs to stop talking to his wife and just call the cops if she doesn’t like it.

There is now a Facebook page established for the nurse-in at the recreation center, which is scheduled for Saturday. So far, hundreds of people have said they will be going to the event.

On the Facebook page, Tracie Rathsack wrote that she received a response from the city after writing a letter about the incident. Here’s what the response said:

The City of Burleson supports breastfeeding and appreciates recognition of National Breastfeeding Week. The city also supports the law which states “A mother is entitled to breast-feed her baby in any location in which the mother is authorized to be.” Today, two women were breastfeeding in or near a public entrance to the city’s recreation center where we were hosting a camp for youth ages 5 – 13 in addition to other recreation center patrons. To be respectful of everyone’s rights we asked the women to cover up. There is nothing in the law that prohibits the city from requiring a mother to cover up. We also offered a room in an attempt to be more accommodative. The city did not attempt to prohibit breastfeeding and we fully support the freedom of mothers to breastfeed as long as it doesn’t infringe on someone else’s freedom.

WFAA reported the center clarified that they were asking mothers to cover up near the entrance of the building at the time because they were then hosting a camp for children.

// ]]>Eades blog, The Eades Family, states that they “believe in home birthing, co-sleeping, baby wearing, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, non circumcising, and keeping our babies healthy & happy!”

Eades also has a popular YouTube channel with more than 34,000 followers.
