Celebrity gossip website TMZ skewered talk show host Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday for what they called a “passive aggressive” apology, alleging her real “mission was to destroy the shop” she recently accused of racism.
“O’s full of it,” wrote TMZ. “What did she think was going to happen when she went on national TV and cried racism? The media was just going to ignore that??”
“Oprah once ragged on hamburgers and single-handedly CRIPPLED the beef industry. She knew damn well how the media was going to handle the Switzerland situation … which is why she went to the media in the first place,” they continued.
The celebrity gossip magazine concluded by saying Winfrey “pretending not to know about the impact of her race allegations” is like President Obama “pretending not to know what’s gonna happen if he pushes the big red button in the White House.”
Gossip columnist Perez Hilton also appeared to mock the billionaire, saying it only looks as if she “had a somewhat change of heart.
“Both the store and tourism officials have released apologies, but Winfrey doesn’t even want to hear it,” Hilton wrote.
On Monday night, Winfrey said she is “sorry” that the accusations she made about experiencing racism in a Switzerland purse store gave birth to a media frenzy.
“I’m really sorry that it got blown up,” the “queen of talk” Winfrey said at a Los Angeles movie premiere Monday night. “I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I’m sorry that I said it was in Switzerland.”
In a recent interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Winfrey alleged a clerk at a boutique store refused to show her a $38,000 purse on racial grounds.

However, the anonymous sales associate who helped Winfrey said on Sunday the billionaire lied about their encounter.
“It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds,” the clerk told Sunday paper SonntagsBlick. “I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag.”
“This is not true, this is absurd. I would never say something like that to a customer. Really never. Good manners and politeness are the Alpha and the Omega in this business,” the sales assistant continued. “I don’t know why she is making these accusations. She is so powerful and I am just a shop girl.”
