An Arizona father taking in a Cardinals preseason football game against the Dallas Cowboys was kicked out of the stadium after he had his 15-year-old son hold his beer so he could snap a photo.
Moments after John Coulter handed his cup to his son, two undercover officers with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control came up to him and said what he did was illegal and he could be arrested, USA Today reported. It didn’t come to that, but the season ticket-holder and his son were escorted out of University of Phoenix Stadium.
“I thought it was a candid camera joke, I really did,” Coulter told azcentral.com.
The officers weren’t kidding: the stadium has been trying to crack down on underage drinking.
“Providing alcohol to an underage person or an underage person in possession of alcohol is a Class 1 misdemeanor,” Sgt. Wesley Kuhl of the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control said, according to USA Today. “The consequences could be up to, and this is a maximum, of two years in jail, $2,500 fine and three years probation.”
