A Russian man is miraculously alive after surgeons had to remove the metal leg of a chair that impaled his skull.

When the patient arrived at the hospital, doctors saw the stool “literally sticking out of the man’s head,” the Russian news site Komsomolskaya Pravda reported (via Google Translate). One leg on the chair went several inches deep through the patient’s skull.

The Siberian Times reported police saying the injury was inflicted during a fight, but no further details about the altercation are provided.

Neurosurgeons who removed the foreign object at Krasnoyarsk Regional Hospital, told the Siberian Times the operation was without complications.

“After the removal of such a massive object, there was no bleeding even at the time of surgery,” a source from the health ministry said, according to the Times.

Although the man’s condition was serious, he was stabilized and after two weeks was showing he lost no motor function, performing activities like feeding himself again. Recovery from the accident is still expected to be long, according to physicians.

It is stunning though what people can live through. As these other X-rays show, people have come out alive after being accidentally hit with a three-foot spear, impaled with a six-foot pole or shot with a nail gun.
