Roman Pirozek, 19, “was flying a remote controlled helicopter when it struck him, cutting off the top of his head, the official said,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Police haven’t said if the 19-year-old was struck by a remote control helicopter he was operating or by someone else’s. They say he suffered a severe head injury but they don’t believe any criminal act was involved. However, a law enforcement source told the Journal that the teen was flying the model helicopter and was an enthusiast.

Enthusiasts are allowed to operate model aircraft in designated parts of Calvert Vaux Park, which features a playground, basketball courts, baseball diamonds and a soccer field.

A group called Seaview Rotary Wings organizes flights in the park. Club members haven’t responded to requests for comment.
