Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who accidentally shot a hunting buddy during a 2006 quail hunt in Texas, has had another gun mishap.
Cheney’s gun malfunctioned during an annual antelope hunting event in Wyoming, failing to get his buck and costing his team the victory, Casper’s KTWO-TV reported.
“The Remington team were the only team that was successful with all three of their hunters,” Terry Martin, president of the One Shot Hunt Club, told KTWO. “Had they not done that, the Wyoming team would have won because with two successes their time was the shortest and Wyoming would have been champions again.”
Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead, the captain of Cheney’s team, said the former vice president “is an excellent shot.”
“He had a gun malfunction. But I think he is so excited and enjoyed this so much. He’ll be back next year,” Mead told KTWO.
Cheney himself seemed to take it all in stride.
“I don’t take it personally,” he quipped to a crowd afterward. “I’m sure there was a small problem with the manufacturer. But I will be back next year, I have enjoyed it, it’s been fantastic. It’s great to spend so much time with some fine folks.”
