David Axelrod, former senior advisor to President Obama, sent out a tweet on Friday that appeared to liken House Republicans to hostage takers.

The tweet, coming from Axelrod’s official verified account, was in regards to a comment made by Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn:

Rep. Blackburn says @ House Rs willing to re-open gov on "bit-by-bit basis." So they'll free a few hostages, but continue siege?

Twitter was quick to respond:

@ Your "hostage" analogies are disgusting. But if fed. programs are hostages, then why do Dems. refuse to accept their release?

@ @ Getting some hostages released is worse than none? If I'm ever a hostage, I pray you're not the negotiator.

@ Isn't Obama holding all the unemployed hostage with his awful economy? How about holding our future hostage by his spending?

@ BS analogy @, but negotiators actually concerned about "hostages" gladly accept release of any, even just one.
