Jeremy Yachik, 35, of the Berthoud Police Department, was reportedly arrested Wednesday morning and charged with four counts of child abuse and one count of false imprisonment. It also recently came to light that his ex-fiancé Ashley Saint-Roberts reached out to the police chief about the abuse allegations, but he didn’t respond.

Saint-Roberts reportedly sent the email, which included an embedded video showing the alleged abuse, to Berthoud Police Chief Glenn Johnson and members of the media. While she didn’t hear back from the chief, she did reportedly get the following response from Yachik: “Nice try…trying to get me fired…it’s not going to work.”

Shortly after the allegations surfaced, both Chief Johnson and Yachik were suspended as police investigated.

The Daily Mail has more details on the video made public by Yachik’s ex-fiance:

The tape, obtained by KDVR, shows a darkened figure of a man standing over teen who is on the floor crying. The man can be heard asking the girl: ‘You had what?’

She replies ‘carrots’, and the man appears to hit the girl before saying ‘exactly’, and kicking her.

Yachick, his daughter, and Yachik’s home living room were all positively identified in the video recording. He can be seen punching and kicking the screaming teenage girl after she ate carrots out of the fridge.

Yachik’s daughter told officials with the Child Advocacy Center in Fort Collins that she had been choked until she blacked out, force-fed hot sauce, tied up with handcuffs and plastic zip ties, locked in rooms, punched, beaten with ropes and starved, according to arrest papers. Further, the girl said the abuse occurred every single day for a number of years.

“The 35-year-old admitted to investigators that he did many of these things to the girl and said it was because she would ‘not communicate’ with him,” the Daily Mail reports.

If convicted on four charges of child abuse and one charge of false imprisonment, Yachik would face up to seven years in prison, KDVR-TV notes.
