Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus had a difficult time keeping himself together Friday when MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing suggested to him that problems with Obamacare may be the fault of the GOP.
“Is there a little bit of disingenuousness,” Jansing said to Priebus, reading a critique of the health care law from the conservative Tea Party Patriots website, ”to hammer the Obama administration over problems that they clearly wanted to happen and wanted to contribute to?”
Priebus responded between resigned chuckles.
“Well, I don’t think the (new health care) website not being able to sign up six people is a problem with the Republicans not liking Obamacare,” Priebus said. “They spent millions of dollars — tens of millions of dollars — on a website that doesn’t work. That has nothing to do with the Tea Party Patriots. It has to do with incompetency at the (Department of Health and Human Services) and a president who is totally aloof, doesn’t know what’s going on and finds out his news the same time you and I do. Reading speeches by somebody else, making promises to the American people that they buy into only to find out that all of those promises aren’t true– that’s not on the Tea Party Patriots, that’s on the president of the United States.”
Obamacare came under renewed fire after large parts of the law began to take effect Oct. 1 and the government website meant to help Americans purchase new health insurance plans essentially became nonfunctional. Subsequent reports surfaced that many people were having their current insurance plans terminated as a result of the law, something the Obama administration specifically said would not happen.
