Glenn Beck on Wednesday donned ruby slippers and played with dolls in an elaborate comparison of the state of the country to “The Wizard of Oz.”

“It’s almost like I’m in a movie, and I just want to go home!” he joked.

As Beck told it, Dorothy was having problems at home because of her little “yappy” dog, and so she ran off to the circus looking for someone who would give her “hope and change.”

But by the time Dorothy got home it was “too late.” Her house was about to be sucked up and her world was about to turn upside down.

“Poppies, poppies,” Beck said in his best imitation of a witch’s voice, waving the “Wicked Witch of the West” doll above her magic oracle. “NSA, is that you? Government, regulators, is that you? The IRS, Obamacare, is that you? Poppies, poppies…”

“Gee, if Dorothy would’ve paid attention a little earlier, maybe this wouldn’t have happened!” Beck added. “So what does she do? She gets advice from this one, [Glinda the Good Witch]! But why won’t this one actually take care of the problem? Why won’t she tell her, you can just go home?”

Beck said Glinda the Good Witch didn’t tell Dorothy until the end of the movie because she wanted to use Dorothy to defeat her own enemies.

“That’s when, if I were Dorothy…” Beck said, and began to smash the Glinda doll with the Dorothy doll.

“Gee, is there anyone like that…” Beck added. “Bingo! Mitch McConnell!”

At that point a picture of Glinda was superimposed with Senator Mitch McConnell’s face.

Beck proceeded to do the same for other characters of “The Wizard of Oz,” calling Senate Minority Leader John Boehner the cowardly lion, the scarecrow Senator Lindsey Graham, and the tin man Senator John McCain.

Beck said he hopes one day to wake up from this dream saying something like, “There was this guy, and the NSA, and the drones, and you were there!”

“In the end,” he remarked, “all of these things that you were looking for, all these people that [you thought were] going to have all the answers — remember, they’re only circus people or hired hands.”

He concluded the segment by throwing all the dolls in a bucket and clicking his ruby slippers together, repeating “There’s no place like home…”
