The Republican National Committee posted a clarifying message Sunday hours after sending out a tweet that suggested racial discrimination had completely run its course.

The RNC had initially sent out a tweet commemorating the day civil rights activist Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat.

However, following immediate backlash, the GOP sent out a clarifying message.

Previous tweet should have read "Today we remember Rosa Parks' bold stand and her role in fighting to end racism."

But that tweet may have been too late to stymie negative attention. On Twitter, users sarcastically used the hashtag “#RacismEndedWhen.”

#RacismEndedWhen @ acknowledged racism existed and then declared it over with this tweet. https://t.co/7Fkryk9zRC http://t.co/3dASuv1wY0
