As the outspoken progressive mayor-elect of New York City gears up to take office, we’re seeing more clearly what his backers and supporters want to see from Bill de Blasio in the years to come.

Take Tuesday night’s Brooklyn gathering, where progressive groups let their voices be heard loud and clear as de Blasio is set to assume power in the Big Apple.

Chris Shelton, a vice president with the Communication Workers of America, told attendees to join a “revolution” against the “bankers, billionaire and brokers of Wall Street,” according to Politicker.

“We are in a progressive moment right now,” added East Harlem Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito, who was an early endorser of de Blasio…and now she’s poised for the council speaker spot.

And in case you’ve been wondering whatever became of ACORN — the liberal community organizing group that infamously disbanded several years ago after a scandal left it without financial backing — Politicker reports that Tuesday’s event was a fundraiser to support the reformed outfit.

That’s right — the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has morphed into New York Communities for Change, and Politicker added that NYCC reportedly gave de Blasio’s mayoral campaign organizing strength and is “now hoping to revolve in his new orbit of power.”

“I am so appreciative of not just the support I received and my campaign received,” de Blasio said at the event. “I’m appreciative of all the people who were given hope by New York Communities for Change, who were shown their own power.”

While the room was reportedly full of left-leaning luminaries, one of the apparently more eye-opening attendees was “Sex in the City” actress Cynthia Nixon — and she apparently gave de Blasio a gentle warning regarding how New York City’s liberal elite expected him to behave.

“NYCC will never hesitate to speak truth to power,” she said, “and to check our new mayor if suddenly he goes rogue and starts spending his days having three-martini lunches with Wall Streeters at Cipriani’s and his nights riding around with Chirlane through moonlit Central Park in one of those horse carriages he was supposed to ban.”

Politicker pointed out that de Blasio already had a power breakfast with a leading hedge fund manager and investment banker.
