A student armed with a shotgun entered a Colorado high school campus Friday afternoon and shot at least one other student before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.

“The shooter is dead as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound,” Sheriff Grayson Robinson announced at a press conference.

Robinson added that the student shot is in critical condition and another suffered non-critical unknown injuries at Arapahoe High School.

The suspect was believed to have been looking for one particular teacher who managed to escape before being located.

“That teacher was informed of the situation and exited quickly,” Robinson said.

Schools in the area are on lockdown and authorities are on the scene.

The school is about 8 miles east of Columbine High School in Littleton, where two teenage shooters killed 12 classmates and a teacher before killing themselves in 1999.

The shooting also comes just one day before the 1-year-anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting that claimed 26 lives, but authorities do not believe the two events to be related.
