Glenn Beck on Tuesday spoke with raw emotion about his good friend Pastor Ken Hutcherson, who is dying of cancer and in his last days.
“It’s been an honor. He’s made me a better man in the short time that I’ve known him,” Beck said, holding back tears.
Beck has been so inspired and moved by “Hutch,” as he calls him, that he even made a television show about the man’s life and how he overcame a future of bitterness and racism after finding God.
“I prayed that we had more time, because I really felt that we failed there,” Beck said. “It wasn’t until halfway through that I really realized … (It’s) for his children. How much would you pay to have your father or your grandfather – pull it off the shelf and be able to see what they said to you?”
“Seeing that his time is now up, I think that’s the only reason why we were supposed to do it,” Beck continued. “And that is the way the Lord works. He doesn’t care about cost; he doesn’t care about business; he doesn’t care about anything. He cares about individuals. And he has used us to comfort his good servant.”
Beck said that when he spoke to Hutch’s wife, she told him: “You don’t know what that peace of mind that has given him, that his children have that … It was a profound gift.”
Beck recalled his fondest memories with Hutch, from the time they met for a television show and Hutch asked that they open the show with a prayer, to the pastor standing behind Beck at one of Beck’s speeches and loudly inserting his own comments like, “Oh, he’s not going there…”
“The lesson of the day is,” Beck concluded, pausing to fight back his tears, “do today what you’re supposed to do today. Don’t put it off until tomorrow.”
“I hope that he will hang on … (so) that I can just say how much he means to me one last time,” Beck added.
