A California man is behind bars after police say he admitted that he sole a vehicle Thursday because he needed a mode of transportation to an unrelated vehicle theft court date.

In a press release issued by the Redding Police Department, officers say Michael Heller, 21, was detained after being found driving a truck that had been reported stolen earlier that morning.

That’s when police say Heller made a surprising confession to officers.

“Heller admitted to officers that he stole Westberg’s truck because he needed a ride to court for an unrelated stolen vehicle case,” the press release. “Heller was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle and was booked at the Shasta County Jail.”

The Huffington Post notes, “It is unclear how Heller will get to his future court date.”
