When Alonza Bryant’s mother and sister saw her face after a drive-by shooting Saturday, they broke down in tears. A bullet sat embedded right between her eyes.

But Bryant, who was shot in the face in her parent’s Seattle home Saturday night, told KOMO-TV it could have been a lot worse had it not been for the glasses she was wearing.

“I could have been dead. I’m glad that the glasses saved me,” Bryant told the news station. “I fell asleep with my glasses on, and the glasses saved where the bullet was.”

The teen’s mother Lavette Bryant told KOMO she thinks the plastic glasses can be credited for saving her daughter’s life as well.

“It’s amazing. It’s God sent. If it weren’t for God, she wouldn’t be here,” she said.

Before hitting Alonza’s glasses, the bullet was also slowed by going through the wall and TV.

Alonza was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and her injuries were surprisingly minor.

While thankful for Bryant’s situation wasn’t worse, the family is puzzled as to why their home would be targeted in a drive-by shooting. According to KOMO, Seattle Police believe it might be gang related. Lavette Bryant acknowledged someone affiliated with a gang might have visited their home or lived there previously, but she told KOMO that she and her daughter are “upstanding citizens.”

“I’m kind of sad somebody would try to kill us,” Alonza told KOMO.

According to KOMO, the family has already moved out of the house Sunday and police are still investigating the case.
