MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry apologized Tuesday for hosting a segment that joked about former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s adopted black grandson Kieran.

“I am sorry. Without reservation or qualification. I apologize to the Romney family,” the cable host said in the first of a series of tweets Tuesday morning, which she hashtagged “#MHPapology.”

Harris-Perry and three guests on her show Sunday played a “caption that photo” game focusing on the most-talked-about pictures of 2013, including a portrait of the Romney family, with infant Kieran seated on the former Republican presidential nominee’s lap.

“One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just isn’t the same,” guest Pia Glenn joked, much to the amusement of the MSNBC panel.

“I think this picture is great,” the Daily Beast’s Dean Obeidallah added. “It really sums up the diversity of the Republican Party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person.”

The MSNBC segment was met with significant pushback Monday after a copy of the video was first circulated by conservative news site The Right Scoop.

Glenn apologized almost immediately on Monday for joking about the Romney’s adopted grandson.

“In a spontaneous reaction to a photo, my disdain for Mitt Romney’s political platform led me to inadvertently insult adoptive families,” the comedian tweeted. “I can say all day what I ‘meant’, but my intentions do not negate the very real pain I have caused. I sincerely apologize.”
