According to some California residents, fireworks weren’t the only lights in the sky on New Year’s Eve.
“Whatever it was moved up and to the left,” Steven Brown, who spotted the lights while in Sacramento’s Belle Cooledge Park, told KXTV-TV of what some are calling UFOs. “It hovered there for probably about 60 seconds, then it took off at a high rate of speed.”
Terry Mauth and her husband saw a light from their Auburn home, about 30 miles northeast from Sacramento. She told the news station it was egg-shaped, quick to accelerate and didn’t make a sound.
“Just this big illuminated form,” Mauth described.
Kaye Pinlac of Stockton, nearly 50 miles south of Sacramento, told KXTV the lights flew in a “diamond or triangle shape” at first but then began separating.

This footage of a single orb is similar to what Mauth described. It was filmed near Greenfield, Calif. in Monterey County:
Here’s another video of an obscure light in the sky filmed Dec. 31 around 7:20 p.m. PST from San Marcos, Calif., near San Diego:
In the past, earthly explanations for lights in the sky have included floating luminaries, drones, planes and helicopters.
Mauth doesn’t think it was a balloon.
“It was too huge to be a birthday balloon or something like that and it moved too quickly,” she told KXTV.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told the news station there were no official reports made about unusual objects flying in the sky.
