FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky lawmaker says she accidentally fired her gun in her office on the first day of the legislative session.
Democratic Rep. Leslie Combs of Pikeville said Wednesday that no one was hurt or in harm’s way when the gun went off Tuesday.
Combs said state police investigated and found no evidence that any portion of the round left her office.
State police officials assigned to the Capitol did not immediately return calls seeking comment Wednesday.
Democratic State Rep. Jeff Greer says he was in Combs’ office when the gun went off. He said it happened after she thought she had emptied the weapon.
Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo said state law allows legislators to bring weapons into their offices, and even into the chamber if they choose to.
