House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) called Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) and “a**hole” in July after he argued that many illegal immigrants are are running drugs across the border and have “calves the size of cantaloupes,” according to Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas).
In an interview with Texas Monthly, Castro revealed the name-calling while also pushing for immigration reform.
Boehner’s office neither confirmed nor denied Castro’s account, though the House speaker did condemn King’s “deeply offensive” comments back in July.
The Democrat called King one of the “less tactful Republicans” who “seemed to even go out of their way to express disdain for immigrants.”
Castro had nicer things to say about Boehner, referring to him as “approachable and down-to-earth.”
