Three people were hospitalized after a partial ceiling collapse during a dance concert Saturday morning, reported WGN-TV in Chicago.
At 1:45 a.m., part of the ceiling collapsed during a performance by DJ Datsik at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, concert attendees told WGN.
The three injured concertgoers were transported to area hospitals with “very minor injuries,” according to the Chicago Fire Department, WGN noted.
But one Twitter user claims that a friend at the event suffered a much more serious injury after the ceiling collapse:
Another attendee, who reportedly came away with a concussion, is depicted by another Twitter user in a hospital following the ceiling collapse:
The ceiling gave way about fifteen minutes into DJ Datsik’s performance, which was supposed to last about one hour, WGN reported.
“At first, I didn’t know what was going on. There was dust in the air, but I thought it was part of the show,” witness Robert Foulks told WLS-TV in Chicago. “I thought it was fog, but a minute or so after that, security had come to the area and aided the people who might have been injured and cleared it out.”
One attendee blamed the collapse on the “intense” low-end frequencies. “The sound system inside the venue was so intense and had so much base (sic) that it literally shook the ceiling down and collapsed it onto the crowd,” Ryan Chun told WLS.
