Russian snowboarder Alexey Sobolev didn’t make the Sochi Olympics slopestyle finals on Saturday.
And when the Games come around only once every four years, missing a chance at a medal can be a depressing prospect.
But the 22-year-old was laughing nonetheless.
Why? Turns out that after Sobolev plastered his phone number on his helmet a few days before, his iPhone had been blowing up with tons of messages.
Among them dozens of photos of naked (and provocatively dressed) women that they had sent Sobolev since acquiring the Olympian’s contact information.
“Yeaaaaah,” he said pointing to one female’s photo on his iPhone, noted Yahoo Sports. “She is really good.”
Another of Sobolev’s stunts during Thursday’s qualifying rounds was placing a caricature on his snowboard that evoked images of the anarchist band Pussy Riot, who ran into a bit of trouble with Vladimir Putin not too long ago.
The IOC made Sobolev cover his telephone number with black duct tape Saturday morning, but by then the digits had been all over the Internet and television…and voila, Sobolev’s newfound female fans.
“I’m definitely going to call them,” he told Yahoo Sports.
At one point Friday, he received so many messages and phone calls that his iPhone temporarily petered out.
